Capital Ships Keep Spinning To Select New Targets

Hey all,

Just obtained the beta version 3 after my wife was kind enough to pre-order. I'm enjoying the game, but there are a few things that I'd like to see improved.

Recently my main battle fleet was engaged with a mixed group of pirate ships. All support ships were destroyed and that left my two Marza capital ships.

I watched the battle and they would hit one target, then slowly spin to attack another target behind them, then slowly spin back again to hit someone who had been in front of them until they spun the first time.

During all of this they aren't maximizing their firing arcs, wasting valuable time turning when there were plenty of targets already in front of them they could hit without spinning.

When they spin around they aren't firing as many batteries, and are thus being depleted instead of reducing the enemy firepower they face.

What this means to me is MICROMANAGEMENT. I absolutely need my ships to be able to take care of themselves without doing boneheaded stuff like this.

As an aside, anyone know where I can find a printable version of the technologies that can be researched, the ships & their stats, etc? I feel really lost starting out with the tech tree.

There really isn't one. Since the game is still in beta it is changing on a regular basis so any printed version would quickly be out of date and inaccurate. I'm sure that once the game hits final release there will be all sorts of nice stuff like that

I agree, and I would also like to see some better formation flying from fighters right up to capital ships. What I mean to say is I don't want my faster ships speeding right ahead of my fleet and getting torn to pieces because they have light armour. I also would like to see ships hold the formations while turning and accelerating.

I really dont mind when fighters and bombers accellerate ahead oftheir parent ships to soften targets, i have won fights because my bombers reached the enemy first, coems down to one ship on one and i have like 12 hp left on that one ship lol

Can you send me a save game of this behavior happening? They shouldn't be doing that so it's likely a bug. Send to [email protected] with a brief description and we'll get it fixed up for you.

The thing I can think of is that the AI prioritizes different ship classes (like your ships will go out of their way to attack Krosovs first, even if they're not in friendly territory). So if say you had a Krosov in front of your Kol and then the next highest priority ship behind, the Kol would turn to that next target, and so the chain continues if #3 on the priority list gets behind again..

Hey, thanks for the response. Unfortunately I don't believe I have a save game of that, since I've made a new game since then.

It stood out because I didn't have a ton of ships at the time so I was able to focus on that particular battle and watch the capital ships keep spinning to select a new target.

I will say that I'm happy most abilities can be autocast and that the AI will not just have my ships stand around doing nothing when enemies attack.

I also like the auto-placement feature for tactical and logistic buildings, which helps reduce some of the micromanagement (albeit at the loss of having everything in the most tactically sound positions based on your enemies)

That's alright. If you see it again, just take a save game and send it off It will help a lot with the mass AI improvement we are working on for release.
