the "tactical manager"

oh come on blair, do tell!

um...
I made this post so we can gossip and rumor about this thing, and if blair would be so kind, talk about its possible implications.

frankly, it deserves its own thread!

The tactical manager is submenu of the ship action grid opened by a button in the free spot. Not much more can be said at this point. We have a number of options to include in it and we are trying to determine the minimum neccessary options so keep it simple and accessible for every user. I can say that the group movement and auto attack range states are being moved off the rightclick action and moved into this area as their own buttons. This is being changed because way too many people aren't realizing you can right click buttons to access critical functionality despite the tooltips and tutorial instruction.

if I'm correct it groups together fleets as distinct groupings, correct?

if you can find a cursory way for fleets to think 'together' that would be amazing, especially for AI functionality

so this tactical manager is just to replace the crtl+1, right clicks and combat stances we know now?

No multi, that is only part of it and control groups are still seperate. As I said in the other thread, the Tactical Manager will also include some sort of fleet control. Likely a single button that links ships together so they operate as a unit instead of as individuals. This is the implementation we are currently testing but it's too early to say if it will be the final or not.

Awsome.

a fleet manager,

if this is what I think it is. Then this is mote than awsome, even more usefull than the comand tree. Though possibly useless without each other.

Yeah, but the old system was so incredible -- it was, quite frankly, ingenious. It was a far superior system to any similar controls that I have ever seen! (Even if it was confusing, don't delete it, just duplicate the control there. That way those of us who are "clued in" can still use the shortcut... and that way, the idea will be out there, so others can use it).

Have to support Ron. Don't remove the old way, just add a second one in the submenu.
