Idea for pathing... i think its pathing...

ANYWAYS!

can you devs in your infinite wisdom add a button that will allow you to set your ships to fly AROUND the reach of gauss so they dont run into a field of death? maybe make it so once you have it set, your right clicks will make them move while avoiding gauss, and if you ctrl+right click, they will move straight for the target

Or you can always hold shift and give them some waypoints to fly around the gauss cannons

which takes more clicking, plus you have to do it EVERY SINGLE TIME they enter a new grav well

In every game ive played online , ive never ever wanted my cobalts to hunt for guass cannons through automation . If cobalts ever want to attack guass cannons , I always expect to be there to control it manually.

The three units I dont mind hunting guass automatically are LRMs, Bombers and Missle Batteries. Caps possibly....

So I think the best thing to do is to just remove Guass cannons from the attack priority so caps (excluding turret attacking) and cobalts/garda/krosov will automatically ignore guass cannons unless you manually ask them to attack it. Also , they can attack them as a return-fire policy or auto move out of range?

psy, if they just ignore gauss, they will fly right through them to get to other stuff

And if they dont ignore guass , they wouldnt even make it to the other stuff

What's the point of having gauss if enemy ships avoid them :/
Reply #7 Top
if you make it so the ships cant come in... also it takes quite a while to go around well placed gauss

If you avoid the guns that means it is that much longer a planet is safe, and it is more time wasted avoiding gauss fire while enemy re-enforcements are on route instead of attacking the guns, and removing the problem outright.

The whole point of the gauss guns isn't necessarily to keep enemy ships out, but to protect key structures like your trade ports, refinery's, and shipyards. I dont use them to block jump lanes. I do just like i said, and place a few close by the planets to nail incoming siege frigs. The AI still has a bad habit of trying to block jump lanes with them. I don't try to avoid the guns, I go straight after them. Gauss guns are no match for concentrated fire from your fleets.

However i do agree it is very annoying that "if" you want to avoid fire a ship has to move forward before it can turn. Which defeats the whole purpose of avoiding the fire to begin with.

Yes Please call us dumb people, considering that your esteem is so low that you must capitalize your font and make it huge just to be listened to I'm sure calling us dumb will make us believe your pearls of wisdom.

Your insulting, therefore i'll have no problem insulting you in the future. Is that really how you want to spend your time on this forum?

Learn some manners.

The key difference between the two is that Eet only acts that way for kicks, but knows how to behave like a normal human being. This guy, though.. just is this way, permanently

Let's try to stay friendly gang. Our tolerance for those who start insulting people is rather low.

But no matter how hard you try to argue for it, there's not going to be an "Avoid gauss cannons" button on the UI They've said they're putting in a fleet manager and working on formations, with that it may well be possible to keep Cobalts from getting shredded by gauss platforms without your own interference. But asking for a selectable AI behavior that avoids defenses and goes after soft targets is too much.

Yep. If you're going to go that far, you might as well just have a "win" button.
gimme the win button and all worries will be over

they already have it, its the orange button of DOOM!

YOU CANT PROVE THAT!!!

and yah to what yarley said about the insults guys, at least do it behind his back or something... (seriously though, ive shrugged off much worse insults, so just let it be guys)

as to the 'win button' thingy, i'm going to do what all devs fear, the 'how hard can it be' speech! if you hold alt, you can see the ranges of all gauss in the grav well, so why cant you just make it so ships naturally avoid those lines? (if the reason is techy, please dont say a bunch of stuff, a simple yes or no will suffice <3)
