Sins Beta 4 Technical Feedback - *POST HERE*

And so it begins....again.

This thread is for technical feedback for Sins of a Solar Empire Beta 4. 

Please reply to this post if you'd like to make: a bug report, let us know about a compatibility issue, graphics issues, performance reports, etc. (i.e., technical stuff).

Before making a report, please be aware that the minimum system requirements for Beta 4 are:

  • Windows XP SP2 / Vista
  • 1.8 GHz Processor
  • 512 MB RAM (1 GB RAM for Vista)
  • 128 MB 3D DirectX Video Card
  • DirectX 9.0c
  • LAN or Broadband Internet Connection for Multiplayer

IMPORTANT:  When making a post about a bug, be certain to include - your system specs, a description of the bug you encountered, what you were doing when the bug occurred (how to reproduce it), and if it was reproducible or not.  We won't be able to make changes to the game without detailed information.

If you encounter a crash, Sins should automatically generate a minidump file. Please send the generated exception and a DirectX diag report to support(at)ironcladgames(dot)com along with a detailed description as outlined above. Minidump files are located in (please note these directories are hidden by Windows):

Replay is on its way. Heres some screens. It was a random generated large map, and it was my capitol, and the asteroid next to it that seemed to "blend" in with the solar system next door. The other planets showed everything as normal.

Here you can see my capitol, and asteroid icons "faded out"

Closer look at capitol. No icons at all even though shipyards, Akkan, and frigs are there.

How do you jump at an angle?
Tried quite some things with the new gravwell, but if i jump my ships to the next gravwell they always end up at the same positions where they started.
If i let them fly from the right inner side of the well they will also appear on the right inner of the next and vice versa.

you dont need to get behind them to manuver around them

Your point being? if they fix the current weird jumping behaior you still have the other room to manouver and everythng, nothing in this department changes then.

besides, the vasari small gw's might allow it...

Tested this, the -12% of jumping range allow you to jump directly into weapon range of the gauss, if they are placed directly on the outer edge of the buildable field.

pithlet come ON! do you read anything for more than one meaning???

I mean if you are near the left side of the gwell instead of going straight, going left will end you up in front of your enemy inside the next gwell (because you moved to the inside left of that other gravity well.

the old game you never had room to manuver around gauss, they could always shoot at you because your ships would have to go that extra 20 meters to turn around.

ok, sorry misunderstood you there then ^^
it is true that you can do that, but you can also do it with the change i suggest.
i get the impression that you think that i want to remove the outer gravwell, again.
But it is far from that, i love the greater manouvering space.
The only thing that concerns me is the jumping behavior when utilising the outer gravwell.

You will still be able to use all the tactical advantages, the only thing i want to fix is that the current setup messes up all formations and thelike.

I not fairly certain this would fall under an error for Sins, but it seems I am having problems with activating the product(which I have done in the past by the way). Here is what happens when I try to activate the product.

I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but the cultural modification bonus that shows up on planets is showing up as "String not found" on my planets.

I've also had several issues with moving groups of capitol ships to phase jump points. Sometimes when they are on the opposite side of a planet/sun they just seem to get stuck and stop moving, and then I have to manually move them to the other side.

With the phase gates for vasari, when you get the top skill that lets you call in ships from the dark armada, there isn't any visual cue as far as I can tell that lets you know that they've arrived, and no real reason as to why they show up where they do. I always have to hunt around for them to find them.

What happened to the ability to pick where your structures go? For most structures (labs/shipyards/media centers etc) I don't really care where they end up so thats fine. With defensive structures like missile platforms and gauss turrets, the computer is incredibly lousy at picking the right spots for them.

Missing level two on Improved Salvaging on Vasari race. Unable to then proceed to Auto Wrecakge Salvaging.

You probably turned on auto placement. You can turn this off just left of the build menu (look for the little infinity sign above the ping command).

ships move exceptionally slow in star gravity wells, like REALLY slow, maybe a few meters a second.

playing as vasari

all the weapon fire graphics dissapeared in a game , but i can still hear them. With a kortul only firegraphics that showed was the yellow beams. The green thing , blue missle werent there . For the frigs , no firing graphics.

One more buggedy bug bug:

I got the vasari no weapon fire visible bug too, only certian kinds of fire was affected the frigates was the most obviously missing.

IDK if this has been reported yet or not but playing on random large has issues:

This is as far as I could zoom out... stars are too close together.


No icons...


Another game, once again stars are too close.

i am also getting the bug where the varasi weapon effects disappear, the sounds still play but the graphics are not present. it is not continual, every now and again the effects will be visible but never for long

bug or intentional:

I could take over the pirate base with culture and start building stuff there. maybe I've been ignorant, but can it even be colonized?

ad ai: a load of pirates were just sitting near a terran planet doing nothing for long parts of the game. possibly they killed off an enemy colony and then didn't know what else to do.

as a further. the bug seems to affect engine trails, phase jump animations and cpu tec ships as well

heres another interesting little bug: phasemissiles go through the shield only to... do a complete 360 and hit the shield again!


its quite funny actually, any missile that bypasses the shield doesnt hit the hull, instead it makes a very tight turn, comes around and hits the front of the shield at an angle. play the vasari ravager, thingy against a dunov and you'll see what I mean

I dont know if the damage is done to the shield or not, but the missiles dont hit the hull.
