Sins Beta 4 Gameplay Feedback - *POST HERE*

This thread is for non-technical feedback for Sins of a Solar Empire Beta 4. 

Beta 4 is the final gameplay test for Sins of a Solar Empire, for both single- and multiplayer modes. If you've got suggestions, praise, or tweaks you'd like us to consider, please post them here. Also note that at this point we are not able to add any additional features to the game, or to radically make changes to how things work.

WTF? Why is the text in my post so damn huge? I did not use any size increase options. Additionally all the text on the forum skin is monstrously big as well. I think it has to do with Logic Win's post and his size increase.

Something strange is going on with the forum code-base.

UPDATE: All is well now the text is back to normal on this page. :)

It happened spartan because some... individual... forgot to close his size tag -- its a bug in several forum codes, where if someone forgets to close a tag it never gets closed, leaving the forums bugged.

Now, why he thought the default size is hard on the eyes is beyond me -- just zoom in with shift + scroll wheel if you have trouble!

That said, his play style will get him MURDERED online. Most people have their first expansions out within minutes.

Well, Thats sort of the kind of feed back I was looing for. However if you grab an expantion in minutes, Im going to have better income as new expansions cost money rather then make money. Also I did say I have 2 expansions in about 5-7 minutes. And I have most of the economy upgrades at least at level 1.

After about 5 min I go for my first expansion maybe even taking 2 at the same time depending on circumstances.

You might have a temporarily higher income, but within minutes I'm going to have my upgrade finished to have a better income. And the fact that I'm not sinking money into defenses right away lets me build a bigger fleet, upgrade my planets more, or go get new planets quicker.

Sins primarily is an offensive based game. Turtling at the start is a good way to lose.

so someone play me online (noones ever on?) I said like tutleing ...I do expand early i just don't spread thin, I take time on the tree and build up my home planet. I focus on economy rather then massin fleets right away. Normally though, the small fleet a do posses (A capitol and6-8 frigates) are up graded with armor and laser upgrades. Also because im building reasearch buildings, i normally have acsess to better quality ships.

Mabey i just diddnt get my point across. Its more about where then how. I keep things close rather then going out looking for fights in the first 20min.

Just someone play me...mabey im on the same page as everyone else on here because Im not saying dont expannd early, Im saying dont go to far early (not counting scouts) and pay more attention to the economy upgrades and planetry upgrades.

My build order is somthing like this..

1. Mine HW Astroids

2. Buld Flagship (normaly the one that colonizes)and a scout

3. Send scouts in opposite directions, build a civic research plant

4. Research adv metal mining and somtimes probes if an arrid planet is next door research terran

5. Build Military Research

6. Build a few fridgates

7. *this is about 4-6 min in* Now i send my 4-6 fridgates nd colony ship to the closet planet with the most crystal (unless my HW has alot)

8. Build 2 defence platform on new planet get PU pop cap and fleet cap

9. send fleet to other close roid or planet

10. Build another civ bace and get adv crystal and 2/2 metal

11. **about 8-10min in** Get second colony take same steps as firs(defence pop cap fleetcap)

12. Build 2nd mitary platform and start on getting flak and javlis (only get the Protov Seige if needed)

13. *15-20min* Now I have 3 planets the basic military upgrades, all the econ upgrades a small fleet of about 7-10 ships, Now that my econ is going I start pumping out more ships (javlis and flak) I normall build a second lt. factory too.

14. Upgrade the planets alittle more with logistcs, tacticle and fleet slots

15. Now about 20-25 min I go out looking for a fight. From this point stratgy depends on whats going on in the planets and astroids around you. I have no problem if i get raided because defence platforms are up and running on all planets and My ships are upgraded. I also have a stable economy to produce more or buy fleet spots.


It works for me... And i don even think about finding the enemy and fighting for the first 20 min. I for planets 4-6 right around the time that Im upping my fleet capacity. Normally by 35 min i have 5-8 planets. On a small map I really dont go for more then that untill what i consider late game. (Seiging enemy planets and colonizing them) When i do take enemy planets I dont give them quite the attention I give my fist 5-8. I get the pop cap up and fleet cap. I build a few gause plats. Depending on location I may throuw in a factory or repair plat. But thats it.

That is pretty much how I try to progress with things but these guys always seem to pounce me if we are close to each other on maps.

I sincerely hope this isn't the case... It's not that I dislike combat, I don't, I love combat. And I will most certainly take part in it, but it's the RT4X, real time empire management I was hoping to get from this game, with real time tactical combat as a side benefit. (I'm not an online or multi-player kind of person, much rather do my own thing...) However, after playing the beta and reading the forums, I gather I'm in the minority. Unless at the time of release, there's a whole slew of 4X gameplay elements added that we're in the dark about.

Yeah i agree with that. Although i don't get pounced on the AI gives me a harder time if we're really close..not much though.

i suppose they focus on production and military tree early but im guessing that Home planets ar far on the map and you've built enough defence as long as you dont wander to far wth your fleets you'd have a better con midgame

I really want to play one of the pesons that plays fast like an RTS to see what happens. I really think I have a sounder strat givin the way the game is layed out for the player. I really dont think going for very planet as fast as you can all the while spammin ships would over com a well defended reseached empire of 5 planet, even if they have twice as many ships

Also I dont even grab a second carrier unill i start building the flaks which is about 15-20 min in.

Quite true -- they have admited to reworking diplomacy and the black market, with more stuff hiding from us. What they hide... who knows?

What do you mean? My Build order? the only other way i can see is spamming ships which is no fun and not what i think the devs had in mind. I stand by my BO as I can fend off rushes and have a very stable economy 20min in. The only thing there is of mine to rush is the first 3 planets (aastroids) i take which are heavely defended and always have a decent fleet within 2 phase lanes. Also eve n if my fleet is small i have alot of room open and good money to re up.

Its probably to late to do this before release, but is there a chance we'll ever get a shift in the way the data files are handled to allow us to either use equations (which would be great) or just input differing values for different levels (which would be good) for stuff like technologies? As things stand, we're stuck with an increase of Y per base and X per level, and I'd like the ability to do diminishing returns, either in the form of reducing effects per research, or (sharply) increasing costs and time to research (e. g. cost = X ^ level, or better yet X * 1.1 ^ level).

Just a sujestion. rather then have the z coridents of all the planets generated randomly could you make it so it controlled in the (map name).galaxy file. if its possible of course then people could make 3d map like a rubix cube or somthing and it would add an extra feel to the game that would be realy cool. Personly i think everything in this game should be incorperated into the z axis beocuse otherwise it will just end up like Empire at war or a bunch of other similair space games that are only controlled in 2d.

P.S. isnt this suposed to be feed back about the beta and not arugemts about strategys and tutleing

This is feedback about the beta. Argument about strategy is part of gameplay feedback :P
