Mod manager

As SINS is probably going to see some pretty heavy modding action, it would be very cool if the game featured some kind of mod manager to easily select the files we want to play with.
This would also reduce the problems with incompatible versions among players when online.
A simple mod folder where you could create subfolders containing the single mods would essentially be enough.
The ingame manager would then scan for these subfolders and display them.
If a mod would be activated, the files inside that folder would be used instead of the original gamefiles.
Files not present in the modfolder would be substituted through the original files.
That way mods could be pretty small and quickly exchangable!

There are already planes to give us what they call the "forge tools" which will make it "easy" AFAIK, at release

i thought the forge tools were simply for creating the mods (so its easy to create them) but not for using them.
maybe we could get some official word what these forge tools include.

There has been mentioned a "mod" folder for the final game. I am not sure if that means you can manage mods like in DoW, GC2, or civ4, But if you search, and look at past post i'm sure you can find where this was talked about before. We haven't received any official word from the dev's about mod management just yet that i am aware of.

The forge tools will include at least map editing, model importing, and more functions. Again no official word yet on what all will be included with the forge tools.

The only modding obstacles we have right now are that we cannot import any 3rd party models just yet. Everything else can be done with wordpad.

We're looking at how to handle this, but it's not something you're likely to see until release.

i really hope that a comfortable tool makes it into the final. good mod work can keep a game afloat for a long time!
Please test these throughoutly, when DoW was first released (and sometimes even throughout the patches) the modmanager was broken and stuff and it was always a great pain in the a**
