Units not displaying in gravity wells

I did a quick search using the search, and I combed the most recent posts. My apologies if I didn't see this already posted.

I can only see units in my Home planet gravity well. As soon as they phase to another planet, asteroid, etc I can't see them.

I have a screen shot. The asteroid is selected, I am zoomed in and I cannot see icons when zoomed out or ships when zoomed in.

When I do a large draw cursor select, the units respond as if I've selected them but I cannot see them.

I must be doing something wrong.

I can see the ships phase. And at certain zoom out distances I can see phase lanes, but when zoomed in the phase lanes tend to disappear?

Did I miss some update about this?

BETA 3 worked fine. Sorry for the late arrival to BETA 4 (been running around like crazy - I know, who hasn't)

Thanks!

EDIT: This only happens with Vasari. Tried a TEC game really quick and all seems to work okay.

Sounds like a very weird issue. Have you tried a reinstall yet? While there are some known bugs about icon / model relationships, nothing like what you described has ever been reported before... that I've seen anyway.

Thanks Ron,

All I did was go to Stardock and do an update. Before I uninstall and reinstall I will the Vasari again. I will take a screen shot and post what I see.

Thanks!

You shouldn't update to Beta 4 over Beta 3 (wierdness may result). Uninstall the game and reinstall fresh to see if that helps.

I am having the same problem, and I did do a fresh install of beta 4.
Here are some images.

you can see on the left of this next one what should be around the planet, and is not.

Are the other stars very close to this one? Others have reported this problem when the systems are very close together.

Yes they are. Interestingly its only the planets nearest the other suns doing it, or so it seems.

I've definitely noticed this problem, most prevalent for me was on the huge-random 5-star map. Ships, structures, and jump lines all disappear unless you zoom in very closely. You can sometimes scroll a little and get them back, but it's intermittent.

I have this problem as well. I concur it happens only on larger random maps where you end up having multiple star systems in close proximity. The unit and planet icons disappear, planets become un-selectable unless you highlight them by dragging, jump lines disappear, etc.

I've noticed that when this problem occurs it's possible to have multiple star system backgrounds in a single star system.

For example, when I was playing a large "Random Galaxy" map, one planet was near the edge of its parent solar system and in close proximity to a neighboring star. When I zoomed into that planet, the background of the star system would actually change to the background of the neighboring star system. If I zoomed out a bit and moved the camera position to the edge of that planet's gravity well, it'd revert to the background of that planet's parent solar system (the correct background). In both cases, icons or jump lines of any sort disappear when this happens.

I did notice (as others have) that saving the game and re-loading it seems to correct issue, but only for a very short period of time.

EDIT: As far as the issue being race-specific, I've only been playing Vasari. I should probably play TEC and see if the problem still occurs.

I think Blair's said this is fixed internally. Something to do with the multi-core threading we've started to do.

I just downloaded last night and have this problem with the Vasari also. Sometimes I can see my ships other times I can't. Also my planets go transparent on me and starlanes dissapear.

Yarlen is correct. It's fixed internally.

What does fixed internally mean? Just curious...like fixed by next patch? I had the same problem too. Star systems seem to overlap making one seem like it's more pronounced and one look dimmer as if it were in the background. Problem occurred on the huge-random.

End of quote

means the devs already have a patch out that fixed it for themselves, but they are too lazy/evil to actually give it to the masses

More likely they want to make sure the fixes don't break anything else, and also to fine-tune them so they don't have to go back and revisit the issue later.
