Suggestion for Asteroids around planets

I was just thinking.. how many planets do you know of that have asteroids around them (sans Saturn)... so why not consolidate some of the resource asteroids around planets into a singular moon. Of course some planets could have asteroids as is the case now, but wouldn't it be more realistic and a lot more interesting if some planets had moons instead of just boring asteroids? Possibly the resource balanace could be the same, but the mines would be constructed on different areas of the moon. So a moon could have 2 metal mines and a crystal mine. I just think it might be a bit more interesting.

Thoughts?

By the way, I'm sure this has been mentioned, but the bug where units will stop in the middle of a phase-line is incredibly irritating.

that would be a easy and balanced way to add moons to the game.

im all for anything that gets moons in game. though i suspect something along these lines is already in the making for the final release.

What makes you suspect that? I highly doubt it

Glad you guys like it, I hope the devs are watching

acutally a cool idea. and if thats too complicated, just vary the size of the asteroids. considerably.

They already said we would Not be getting moons... but this would be such a easy and simply method of getting them in with no game play change.

It could be modded in later anyways though, just have a different resource asteroid model, it perhaps would be only able to have 1 mine, but you could mod the roid to provide the equivelent of 3. On top of that mod the planet in question so it only places one moon and no other asteroids.

I'm probablly going to have to do a 'varied' planet mod, this will be tried for it!

well you know technically the astroids around those planets ARE moons. a moon like ours is increadibly rare. infact those astroids are more like real moons then ours is. Ive herd several conversations among profesors and grad students here in the Astro-physics deparment (were i study and research) of actually renaming the Earth-moon system as a Binary planet system ranther then planet-satalite. Simply because its so increadibly unlike any other planet-satalite system weve seen or that our theorys predict. not that its likely to happen, just in interesting thought... the moon after all is a full 1/4 the size the planet we live on!

All this said... i would LOVE to see moons like ours in game. i know im kinda arguing the opposition. really im all for the ideas above mentioned. im just trying to be a realist. plus it is an interesting fact

Another interesting fact is that Jupiter has by now I believe 63 discovered moons, most of them nothing but tiny chunks of rock stuck in orbit

well, there are large moons, like europa or titan, but few of them are so similar in size as our moon is to earth. only other example I can think of is pluto and charon.

Spherical moons would require new art assets. I'm afraid that's not possible at this point.

Thats what Mod's are for

I think we all understand now that it is too late in the development stage for any kind of major engine, or art changes, but perhaps these ideas can be implemented in future patches.

what about just bigger version of the asteroids we have now? essentially the main asteroid of an asteroid planet in orbit of say an ice world?

That's quite unfortunate to hear :-/ But at least we have our mods and maybe subsequent patches/expansions!
Most definitely.

Maybe moons in the expansion? <3

No. We would prevent that just to spite you, kosc.

they will, of course, justify it by giving me a death star to toy around with.

Thats my Death Star, Schem
