Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

If your claws can grasp it, then it is rightfully yours. - Kzinti proverb

A salute to all those heroic t'kzintar who have made this empire a resounding success. Our conquests continue and the galaxy will never know peace!

What difficulty level is that game on Loupdinour? Good to see the AI putting up some tenacious resistance!

~tucks tail between his legs and lowers ears~ Tough.

But it's on a medium map, no tech trading nor stealing, normal tech speed & no minors.

I was fine with the Korath, Thalans and Yor so far in this post-beta run of TA vs the Dregin with their same setup. It's just playing as the Torians is giving me grief.

You'll be happy to hear though, that I turned those frogs Evil. The only remaining opponents on the map are Korx, Yor and Dregin. The Iconians, Alterians and Arceans all have been destroyed. For both diplomatic reasons (don't hit m fellas, I'm evil too!!!) and the desire to take the Dregin out on an Influence front ~nose-nudges his new MCC~ whilst building a better navy and licking my wounds. So far I've taken over as many planets via influence as I did in troops, one of which was Drengi :)

Once I'm back to fighting capabilities, I'm going in for round 4 vs the Dregin in this game. I destroyed about 14 of my transports because my escorts were gone and their ships can outrun my transports by 2x (so planet sling-shotting would only delay it).

What is this "Great Galactic Swindle strategy"?
Since I'm now on a different MVL team I can't see what secrets you guys are exchanging in the Team D core forums ;)

Sounds like a real rough and tumble game Loupdinour...lots of fun. We all know Torians secretly wish to be evil. Just read this AAR, Shadow Sun, and their true nature is revealed!

That's something Mumble posted, and it's not in the Team D forums Noctilucus, so click the link and you will be able to see it. :)

Yeah, I'm just doing a grand tour to get the Racial Victory medal and now I'm putting away with them. That tech tree both emphasizes their super ability, yet keeps them grounded in the long game. Definitely a good choice by the devs I think, I'm just being a grumbly ol' man. Torians are much easier w/ tech trading on, so you can fill in the gap that is their POS research buildings...but why then having different tech trees?

I know the answer, so as the Iconians you can build a 750hp huge ship after buying all the passive +hp techs in the game :)

Welcome to our newest warriors, Purple17, & Thomas12! :D Sounds like they might belong to the Yor or some machine race. ;)

Thats, ummm....BIG! I dont remember what the highest HP ship I've seen, but nowhere near to that.

Noctilucus, did you take a look at the Swindle strategy? I've had some success with it. It's near the end of year 2 in my huge-map game, and I own 80% of the planets in the galaxy. It's a little tricky, and I need to refine how I do it some more, but it's definitely very effective. Trading for my ships doesnt seem to work like people said it would, so I have to figure that out.

Yeah, due to the different tech trees, you can buy the equivalent tech from each race, then stack on top that the Iconians have the best HP module (on huge ships, since it doesn't seem to scale, lower than huge it's not as good as other race's).

I think I still had a good 100 or so attack that game...

Gah, it wasn't 750, it was 709...my bad. Here's what I posted when I found this sickness:
https://forums.galciv2.com/313638
The 709hp monster had a movement of 5 and beam attack of 478. 9 Doom Rays, 2 Hyper Warp mk3, 31 Organic Hull Platings.

Due to passive bonuses, the base hp went from 338 to 709.
As for the attack, it went from 198 to 478.
Regens 6hp in space, 25 in orbit.

Not yet KzintiPatriarch; I had a first look and considering how extensive the information in that thread is, I'll probably have to leave it until I return from holidays. Right now other hobbies, real-life and packing take too much of my time :)
But it will be great to try this strategy since usually I'm very slow / limited at colonizing, this will be a whole new approach just like the ZYW's were to me.

Here are some of the results from my first game using the Great Galactic Swindle strategy. Until the very beginning of year 2, I had a total of 5 planets, and was ranked last in just about every category. On January 8th 2008 I enacted the first Swindle, and jumped up to 85 planets, including 7/9 of the enemy homeworlds. From this population graph, you can clearly see the effect.

Photobucket

You can also see that the Altarians were the only one that didnt drop down. I had to wait another 12 weeks to speak to them and swindle their planets away. This second population graph is from about 1.5 years later, and you can see that I have many times more population than any other empire. At this point I'm up to 210 planets total, out of about 230 total habitable planets in the galaxy. I've done a bit more swindling, and also some more conventional conquering.

These next three pics are my military graph at various times.

You can see that I went from nothing, to the most powerful military in the space of a handful of turns (thanks Spin Control Center!). Next game I try this, I plan to get to the swindle point earlier, and have a steeper increase in my military rating. I also need to do better with managing the post-swindle period. I was a bit unfocused, due to being delirious with the sudden and dramatic increase in my civilization's power.

I did have some trouble with the actual swindling initially, because it required precise timing, and I had to figure out the best time to do it. At first I couldnt get any of the enemy civs to give away their homeworlds. The optimal swindle period seems to be a very small window. The two most important factors are that your military rating is many times that of your enemies, and their worlds cant have accumulated too much population and improvements. Also, once they start building a military your swindling power dramatically decreases. So timing is definitely extremely vital. The earlier the better, so I'm thinking the all-labs strategy would work best in conjunction with the Swindle. I used the all-factories strategy for this initial game, and it was reasonably successful. I also think it may work better with DL than DA, but I couldnt say for TA.

For those of you who have registered at the Galactic Core, you can check out this thread, How's this for a home planet, where Mumblefratz gives a lot of detail on how this strategy works.

One way of avoiding the exclusion of a race in the swindle is to use a minor race to sell the round of attacks instead of a major one. Of course, that'll mean finding one before the efforts begin, but it can net a fine harvest of extra planets, cash and maybe even a tech or two.

You can swindle the minors in the mix while you're at it, too.  :)

I had something odd happen to me this weekend. I thought my game was going to crash when it happened...but instead it made me laugh when I realized what happened.

Setting: As the Korath, I'm reprogramming all sentient life to think that I am their savior and that the Aul Incinerator is a playground (AKA Dark Influence meets the new MCC).

The UP vote comes up to vote on something (irrelevant what). The Krynn and Arceans are the only other ones at the table to vote. Once the vote is cast, the Arcean's portrait disappears. I sat there blinking a bit, then just closed the window. The next thing I see is a planet flip window, followed with another saying that the last Arcean planet has switched to me.

So after the voting, it then calculated the influence flip and thus removed them from the voting screen.

Yes indeed, the MCC has gone from being the most powerful single structure in the galaxy (+100% economy bonus), to being the most powerful single structure in the known universe, and all unknown parallel universes!

You don't even need the Korath / Krynn influence buildings - 3 or 4 influence resources is enough to flip the entire galaxy. Once they start to go, it's like dominoes. In my last game the 2 remaining AI (Drengin and Human) went from just under 200 planets between them to 1 in under 6 months. Drengin had no re-education center, and I think their last 12 planets all flipped on the same turn. It all happened so fast I was left with a bit of a pirate headache though!

Nicely done mate... :CONGRAT:

If you pull it off right KP, you can get a mil rating of 1128 VS 12. thats what i had in my MVL game... ;)

And if you really get it done right you don't even need the SCC or any military....in my current Mumbler i went in the space of 1 turn from 5 planets to 508 planets....with no military at all.

Aye, but each flipped planet gets a DI building placed first in it's que..so things explode from then on as well :)

As I also found out, it helps speed up war. Just think about all those darn planets you must tediously invade. When they can just realize that it's just futile to fight the war against you...just join up forces against your former masters!!!

Aye. When the TA 1.95 patch came out, the MCC changed. I didn't see any DL/DA patch out that day though.

So any of ya's hyped over the impending news of Star Trek Online by Cryptic Studios? I know I can't get my mind to accept any more time-sink MMO's, but I surely hope a good sci-fi MMO takes off.

So far, just info of a count-down clock is seen on their web page: http://www.crypticstudios.com/

But they did buy the IP for STO...so it's only a matter of time...

It's surprising that you were able to swindle them without the use of any military threat to enhance the peace deals. One thing I know I need to improve is the speed at which I got to the swindle point. Next time I'll be more tech focused, and get a good setup to use the all-labs approach. From your MVL game I'm guessing you did it as much as one year earlier than I did in my initial try at the strategy.

No, I've never even heard of it. I've never had much interest in MMOs, mostly because the pay-to-play model offends my sense of cheapness. ;) The game genre itself would be cool if not for that. I did play on a MUD in the 90s for a few years, and also on Diablo II for a while, which is sort of similar. D2 is free to play after you initially buy the game. I like free. :D

Hehe. Yep, the game'll do that to you, won't it?  ;)

I meant that when you go to war, you don't have to speak to the individual races, nor attack them. You can use a minor race and bring up a dialog. On the left side of the screen, there'll be an option to sell (or gift) "Attack". Click that and you can specify a race that you want to go to war with. Click again and again until all races are on the list.

The races that you can't go to war with are the one you speak with, any that you're on friendly terms with and any that the race you're talking to are on friendly terms with. There's also apparently a time limit as to when the option disappears from the list, but none of my games have gotten that far.

I had assumed that you were using this method to attack, since one race was excluded. The race you talk to is excluded from the list, so I thought you "sold" the wars to the Altarians.

A friend of mine once did a cost-comparison for single-player games vs MMO's and came up that on average, you saved money by playing a MMO. Now, that was with that current trend of games and figuring that you'll blow thru a game a month...etc. A sure-fire hit game for you would however tip the scales to single-player.

I held onto MoO 1 until he got me hooked onto this last June. 15 years playing a video game...try to beat THAT cost savings lol. Sure, there were plenty between there that I dumped money on...but I still had MoO1 installed on my XP machine up until I installed galciv2 DA last year.

Actually, I didnt play GC2 at all yesterday. Worked all day, then D&D until midnight, and got up again at 5:45 AM to go to work...very tired...

Damn, I dont know why I never thought of that...feeling a bit dumb now.

With the Altarians, I declared war on them normally, and waited 12 turns to swindle them, because I couldnt talk to them again right away, even with a re-load. I'll know better next time. Thanks! :)

Even with Super Diplomat that is limited? Or is that the cut-back time?

*edit*
scratch that, finally read the word "Alterians"
