Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

If your claws can grasp it, then it is rightfully yours. - Kzinti proverb

A salute to all those heroic t'kzintar who have made this empire a resounding success. Our conquests continue and the galaxy will never know peace!

...the pay-to-play model offends my sense of cheapness. The game genre itself would be cool if not for that.

A friend of mine once did a cost-comparison for single-player games vs MMO's and came up that on average, you saved money by playing a MMO. Now, that was with that current trend of games and figuring that you'll blow thru a game a month...etc. A sure-fire hit game for you would however tip the scales to single-player.I held onto MoO 1 until he got me hooked onto this last June. 15 years playing a video game...try to beat THAT cost savings lol. Sure, there were plenty between there that I dumped money on...but I still had MoO1 installed on my XP machine up until I installed galciv2 DA last year.

For myself, a one-time cost game is almost always the better deal. I've been playing GC2 (not continuously) for at least a year and half now.

I think the last time I broke out MOO1 was a couple years ago. Might be due for another refresher soon. :)

I had Super-Breeder, not Super-Diplomat, so I'm not sure if that has any effect on the waiting period. I do intend to try Super-Diplomat next time though. A re-load will allow you to immediately talk to all of them, except the one first pictured on the diplomacy screen. Motti's suggestion seems to work around that too though.

I know Super Diplomat shortens the wait time needed to talk to civs period. I can only assume it would have an effect on the wait for war.

True, and even without Super Diplomat, the strategy is VERY effective. Ragnar, I'm sure you'll make it to the top 100, so maybe you should shoot even higher? Top 25 perhaps?

Baby steps. First the top 100, then top 25.  ;)

I was more of a MOO 2 fan than MOO 1, but I definitly got my money's worth of both. 15 years of MOO 1? Nice. :SURPRISED:

Another game I really got into and got my money's worth was BF1942. It probably wasn't the best FPS, but I had several friends that got together and used YIM with voice chat almost every night for a couple of years. I actually did break into the top 100 according to BFstats.com for a brief time, which I thought was pretty good considering how many played it.

For a cheap MMO, you can try Guildwars. No monthly fee. I got into it for a while on the campaign, but didn't really interact with other players much.

I also like breaking out Carmageddon 2 every so often for some nice carnage. Some games just never die.

3-day weekend this week. I may do some arse-kicking and name taking. Should easily get me closer than my current 76 :)

That is, unless I decide to take a slow game and do more research into my spy-week project some more:

Yeah, MOO was one of the greatest bargains of all time for a game. When I first started playing it, I didnt even own a computer. I would go to the University computer labs with my 4 MOO disks, and load it on the computers. Back then I may have even had a pirated copy...I dont remember. I still have the CD I bought later around here somewhere.

Sounds familiar but I cant picture it. I keep thinking of the table-top Car Wars.

Thanks for the link. :)

Good to hear Nequa! You can definitely submit with all three expansions of the game. I'm still playing DA, but after my current game I'll probably finally try out TA.

Our next stop is to work on Galactic Civilizations II v2.0. v2.0 will be an update for both Twilight and Dark Avatar players which significantly enhances espionage,

Hrm, I may really need to rethink my quest to learn more about the current espionage system until I learn more of what will be changing in the 2.0 version.

I have my spy-weeks figured out (last 2 may be a bit sketchy yet). Cost per spy though I haven't gotten too in depth with and will go on hold now.

So I'll just focus on some ZYW's in the mean time. I'm slowly working my way up through the map sizes, adjusting things as I go. Got a small map done last night, next stop medium...or I could be really maso to myself and jump right to Immense LOL. I think I couldn't keep the stars on rare if I wished to get across THAT galaxy w/in a year.

There isn't any ZYWs done yet on immense is there?

I really do hope they make some major changes. The espionage system is rather lame at the moment. The only thing I use spies for are countering enemy spies and occassionally nerfing the AIs farms before I invade. Otherwise, they dont seem worth the money you have to spend.

I think Magnumaniac has done at leas ta couple immense ZYWs. I remember him mentioning something about it, so check out his profile.

Yeah - I've done quite a few. Map size doesn't show up in the MV submission yet though.

Tougher with the TA economy and only 3000bc to start. Also bonus tile frequency appears to be significantly lower. Net result is a lower score than in DA (best I've managed so far is 97K+, as opposed to 102K+ on a DA gigantic).

Hmm, I could take my main character and create an empire that would be in 8th place, or use all 3 for 6th place. Now, if I could encourage Neilo and KP to join up... we'd take 3rd from the Tyranny  :HOT:  - not that I am in anyway suggesting that those honourable emperors would ever consider abandoning their empires  ;)

Hrm, maybe I'll just go to Gigantic and see how I fare there for a bit before I try Immense then. If I get very decent scores on Gigantic, I may test my luck on Immense...if my computer like me that much that is lol.

Nope, never! The next goal for the Kzinti Empire is 20 million points!  :HOT:  But just for fun of thinking about it, all three of my characters would make a 6th place empire on their own too. My best character would be in 10th place on its own.

I wouldnt say its more difficult, but you do have to adjust some tactics like I mentioned in my PM. Good luck!
