This isn't exactly a discussion thread where people debate, except for when harrassed about not having replied instantly anyway.

im not... but i am reading. and this idea has deffinitly be talked about befor, especially in conjuction with possibly giving your flag ship some "intimidation" bonus. like if you jumped into a system and saw your enemys FLAGSHIP staring you in the face, you would probably poo your pants... because its their FLAGSHIP!

We've also discussed what a flagship is, and why it wouldn't necessarily convene a bonus to your fleet. A flagship can mean the main ship in a fleet, or it can be the first thing (ship, product, service, person, whatever) of a given catagory. ie If sins was the first game the IC made (and I almost think i heard it said that it is) it would be the flagship game for IC.

Hence, when you loose your flagship, you loose the first cap ship you made, and hence you couldn't re-designate another as your "first" because "first" is final. If that made sense.

Flagship could simply be automatically transferred to the highest ranking capital ship left in the fleet, and/or give some way to assign it. It shouldn't have any direct gameplay effect I think. Patch material, nice-to-have.

I believe we had this discussion several months ago. I do not remember if it was resolved however.

Personally speaking I think we should be able to name new flagships or at least have an option to build one after our first one dies. I also think this should be a selectable option at start-up.

I don't know about you, but simply Haveing a ships designated "The Flagship" is awsome, if not just for kicks and gigles

I still think judging from the way it works ingame already, "flagship" is just the first ship. However, as I have said before, having the flagship convey some bonus or have some benefit would be nice, as long as it isn't game tipping (battle tipping maybe though).

actually, we are automatically playing in "flagships" mode, in "normal" mode, you dont start with a free cappy

I don't know about everyone else, but when this happens for me I think, "Oh what a big, fat, lovely target!

normally a flagship is gonna be the most powerful (and not to mention largest) ship in the fleet.
also, the flagship isn't nessecarily the first ship

I looked in the dictionary:

Capital Ship - A large first class ship with first class armaments.

Flagship - The ship that carries the commander of a fleet and flies his flag.

So, if the commander and his flagship were to get blown up, they would appoint a new commander and his ship would become the flagship. Therefore, my proposal of appointing a new flagship after the first one blow us makes complete and total sense.

That is not the one I remember. The one I'm thinking of is from late spring if memory serves.

Well I think most people assume a flagship is the head of an armada. In space combat it can be compared to the Alpha unit of the group. Well anyhow thats what i know

Maybe flag ships needs giant space flags so we can tell them apart from the other capital ships?
