Tutorial "basic gameplay" breaks

After phase jump

The tutorial tells you to order your fleet to phase jump to the nearby world, presumably the one with the question mark. You can use the move order or right-click. I right-click the world, my fleet phase jumps on over and a few enemy ships move into range...

...however the tutorial message never changes and neither my ships nor the enemy will fire on one another.

Tutorial doesn't work well, and hasn't ever -- it isn't a priority ATM. It will be fixed before release. For now, you're going to have to learn the hard way, sorry.

Tip of the day: Right click on the move or attack orders to toggle some AI controls -- your ships can jump as a group, or as individuals through the move command, and the attack command controls how far off their current position they will move to engage enemy ships.

Yes, I've noticed this problem on Beta 2 as well. What I do to bypass this is phase jump back to the home planet and then back to the new one. This updates the tutorial for me.

As I recall that particular step really means for you to just move to the entrance of the phase lane on your end and stop, not to actually jump just yet.

Uh, 2? We're on beta 4 currently...

I meant "as well" in the sense of "in addition". What I wanted to say, is that it's a very old problem

It's pretty confusing. The first instruction is:

"Take your small fleet and investigate the nearby planet by clicking the move button then left clicking on the planet's icon in the main view. Alternatively, you can simply right click it."

When you do it you start phase jumping and get the following message:

"In order to Phase jump to another planet, ships must be within a limited arc centered on the Connection Line. Also notice the movement lines for your fleet are blue to signify their current movement orders will involve Phase Jump."

Then you reach the new planet but nothing really happens, and no new message appears.

Oh and here's another bug - phase jump is written first as "Phase jump" and then as "Phase Jump". I guess the first "jump" should also have its 'j' capitalized.

Well, in any case, the tutorials are due for a complete overhaul come release anyway, AFAIK

That's great. The tutorials are what many players will experience first, and you know how first impression counts

I just started and I came to a dead end in the first basic tutorial (no ok button appearing). It just sits at the script after telling me about the initial frigate and how it will be replaced if I lose it. Then, nothing.. I can't get it to advance at all.

I'm trying to find help in the forums, but that hasn't been easy either. I updated the game with the latest patch, and still it isn't getting me past this point.

Is it possible the tutorial is over? aaargh..

I know the game is great, my son has been begging me for weeks to get it, so I'm not saying I wont play or anything lame like that, but the guy that mentioned first impressions is right. This isn't a good first impression, as I'd think of all things, a tutorial shouldn't be the part that's bugged.

Hmm, we haven't had any tutorial problems since early February. What version is in the bottom right hand corner of the screen?

version 1.03

did it not patch possibly? I clicked update a second time and reinstalled it.

Version 1.03 is the latest. Have you tried restarting the tutorial and seeing if the same thing happens?

Yeah, I've done it twice on this second install even.

It's when the scout ship flies up.. all my guys moved to attack it, and they are, but it doesn't damage the scout.. I am building lots of things to see if I can trigger something in the game to give me the 'ok' button to advance.

I should just skip it, but if it's a bug it's worth squishing. :)

I found the irc room, quiet in there, but if you wanna discuss it I'll stick around there a while.

retried yet again and this time something different happened. The enemy scout didn't appear at the edge after I colonized the asteroid and was given a construction ship. Then the tutorial advanced and now I can scout out the 2nd unknown planet.

I am thinking I may have been sightseeing too much and maybe the enemy AI was sending a scout to see what I was up to. It locked up from there.

Well, that's my best guess.. either way I'm past it now.. Thanks everyone for being around on a Saturday.. That's a very strong and positive offsetting impression.

I look forward to a lot of hours playing.. Thanks again

Did anybody figure out how to solve this problem?

I just opened the box an hour ago and now I'm stuck.

Not a good sign...

yeah Patch your game this was fixed ages ago. This is the beta feedback forum for patch 1.1 that is currently being publicly beta tested. Try a few games in 1.05 before/IF you decide to update to the beta. The reason I say that is in the Current Beta Version of the patch we are testing the Tutorial gets broken in it also. I am sure it will be fixed by the time the patch comes live. But why go through that headache while your learning eh?

I know and my first instinct was to leave him hanging. (I am not a nice person heh!)

BUT due to the fact that the multiplayer community for this game is much smaller then the single player community...I went ahead gritted my teeth and was polite enough to answer his question, posted in a 9 month old thread. If it was a baby it would be born by now actually....hmm.
