Star Trek Online - First in game space rendering...

Sadly I am MEH to it...

Its like they took Star Trek and mixed it with WOW's cartoonyness :NOTSURE:

Why must every game with the words "Star Trek" in the title go all FUBAR :(

I heard was under development by a big company and then someone else bought it and people thought it would become... dumb ("more casual").

Because they dont have The Stress Puppy (aka Major Stress) or digital Underground/Star Trek:Homeworld working on it. :p

After seeing that screenshot I can say its the same old "lets draw in the kiddies" Star Trek instead of making it "true" trek. This isnt Star Trek, This is "World of Wartrek"

Cartoon characters, and a stupid looking ship...Hmmm

Intriguing. The ship model looks nicely detailed, if a bit weird.. I don't recognize it, it most closely resembles the Intrepid class (unless they put in a mess of their own, which would probably not be such a good idea).

The asteroids/skybox looks a little cheesy. But as we all know, graphics can change quite a bit between early screenshots and final product.

As for the guy in the dialogue window, yeah.....

Actually, as far as the model style is done it's fairly consistent with the latest movies (namely Nemesis). Which of course you can argue is not the height of Trekkiness, but still, it's not a bad looking model.

Sadly I will buy it... It has the words StarTrek in the title (:(

*looks at his copy of Star Trek Away Team, and shudders*

If they change the way the character look and add in red shirts who die in every away mission, then hopefully it'll be better.

Rated T for teen: Red shirts dying.

If thats an alpha screen, the game is not necessarily cartoony or wowish.. its the hotbar and the external view that worry me, if they try to make this EVE in the ST universe I will be sooo pissed, it was supposed to be you playing as ONE character aboard a vast starship to replicate that Trek feel.

It might linger on like a fart if they go the EVE route but it will never reach mainstream status.

Well the ship has a Sovereign class saucer section, a mildly galaxy class secondary hull, (can’t see the front) and the nacelles are from the Oberth class. Then it’s all mixed together in a vague intrepid class configuration.

The ship is ok I guess, but the rest of the screenshot is too cartoony for me and not to forget the character in the dialog box is just a bit over the top. It looks like they got him from Looney Toons.

ROFL. You guys are going nuts, both positively and negatively, over a render. This render qualifies as "concept art" and not the final, or even beta, appearance of teh game, races, or even ships. It's too slick to be a real-time render. Take a second and look for all the little graphic quirks that should be present, even in a limited sense, in a real-time game--they aren't there.

I repeat, all images are either CONCEPT ART or very alpha-level work in progress engine "stills".

ROFL you have low standard for what you consider "going nuts." I think you are more nuts over what everyone else thinks about the screenshot then they are about what they think.

So don't have a cow I'm really not that concerned with it.

Where are the blue girls? Ultimately that is really all that matters for sales given the likely market they are shooting for with this title.

Not as well conveyed as it could have been, but a valid point in any event :P

Pre-alpha/pre-beta anything, from MMORPGs especially, seems to be focused too much on marketing BS, rather then displaying the truth. A lot can and likely will change between a pre-alpha still shot and actually seeing the game running on your own rig. If anything the past decade of MMORPG history is proof of that.

well unless they start making something that looks AT LEAST as good as the new eve online update, it will fail very badly cept for the uber fanbois that will stick to it like glue lol

I just wish some people could make another epic Star Trek strategy / tactics game. Like a Birth of the Federation 2. The whole reason I bought SoSE was because I was in search of a contemporary sci-fi tactics / strat game.

Even though I enjoy it very much, I would give my left nut to get a BOTF 2 that was well-made and had the support like that of this game.
