Fog of war

Hi,
is there really a reason to know right from the start where every single star system is located? Wouldn't it be nice to have them hidden in the fog of war so exploring is more interesting?
I think it would be nice to be able to select it as an option at the beginning of a game or to have a technology such as "gravitational scanner" later in the game which enables the player to see all star systems? What's your opinion? :notsure:

Well, we have a fairly good map of our corner of our galaxy, and that's just using our telescopes. I would imagine that they would have the technology to know the locations of the stars. But you still don't know what type of stars they are, nor what kinds of planets orbit them. It seems pretty realistic to me. At least, as far as we can determine how reality relates to the 23rd century! ;)

Oh, and the original GC was like what you described, and "Eyes of the Universe" gave you the power to see all the stars, and everything about them, too.

Stellar Cartography does the same thing now, but it's probably only worthwhile on the larger galaxies. All planets class 15 and above show up as white stars on the main map.

End transmission.

Well, we are able to determine planets around some stars atm too. Be determining periodic fluctuations in something that the star emmits.

If the star locations were hidden behind the fog of war then the AI would have an even greater, even more unfair advantage over us mere humans! :)
