(resolved) AI fails to concentrate forces, game too easy

I've played the game a few times now and can't seem to create a losing situation. I think this is because the AI doesn't concentrate forces. I'm playing with only hard opponents and permanently locking them into teams. Still, the AI despite having the resources to contend fails to put together and employ fleets that can win decisively. The piecemeal use of ships takes all of the fun out of the game. I just want to get to the end of the game where the winner is in question and both of us have these cool looking large fleets going toe to toe. Instead I've picked off every capital ship long before (because they fought with too few frigates supporting) and am faced with a boring grind to finish the game.

you haven't read many threads here, have you Pwn?

only the pink space ponies decide who is of topic!

eets eets eets' beets!

and they have deemed by the standards of this forum, that this post (as of now) is off topic!

Okay, on topic, THAT is off topic here.

Anyway, the computer should be able to build increasingly good defenses as difficulty goes up, in addition to managing better.

i.e. unsupported turrets on one of many incoming phase lanes with a hangar on the other side of the system on easy, turrets placed better and protecting a few hangars, a repair bay and a pji on medium, and a tight network of two repair bays, multiple hangars, a pji and multiple turrets blocking the most likely phase route and keeping the civilian structures safe.

or some kind of scaling like that. It's just that i want to make sure that building habits as well as management, change with difficulty.

a Pink Space Pony kicks unknown pwn in the side of the head as a warning... (would not want to hit him anywhere that could cause any real harm on a first warning, so in the head was an obvious choice)

Actualy Ron is the crowned prince of offtopicdom. I didnt mean to imply that I dont like the guy or the effect he has on the community at large u n33bs.

Thanks for teh flogs tho, nods.

And yeah, focussing on your starting build listen closely to the pink space ponies:
Economic infrastructure+ colonizing reserach with spammed frigates to support your Colonizer cap will go a long ways to ending an otherwise long game simply because its damage and surviveability output and intake is astoundingly effective at making itself the primary target in any battle where you jump it into system first, then hail in the support fleet ontop of the soon to be ownd AI that never knows what hit it, and colonize to your hearts content all the way up to the AI's starting system before he takes his back endsystem 'roid.

Works every time.As in every single time without fail, (to date regardless of race)

Granted thats laced with a little venom, and no offense to you whatsoever that you are unfamiliar with how frail the AI actualy is as an opponent(whatshis face), I was a strategy noob once myself, but, the AI realy does need some pimping, and badly.......for people that are single player inclined that is. Its the human opponents that will be interesting to say the least, and I am so damn glad this will have that available with the release, but I am more concerned realy that this feature of the game, the AI, wich is actualy going to be needed from time to time in hosted games, so therefore the AI must stop sucking.

So while yes, im actualy the one off topic, its all interrelated.

Anyways, back to our show Pink Space ponies does Debby.

Just in case no one has mentioned it yet, the current AI is nothing more than a placeholder -- with so many features not yet added to the game, they couldn't design a decent AI. AI has to come last as its effected by everything else.

Meh. Its a long arguement but in a nutshel, SD's been very good about following up with updates post release that Ill bide my time to see what they can come up with, and hopefuly it covers this dept.

Adressing specificaly:

Fleet formation. Nothing is easyer to defeat than a scattered/trickle fleet.
Fleet Composition. The only fleet easyer to spank is the one that dosnt have
disposeable dps attacking the other guys disposeable dps.
Target Priority. The next easyest fleet to defeat embodies the principles of the
first two noob fleet Commanders. Lack of proper composition, scattered, and incapable of
intelligent attrition modification....aka, target priority.

If the AI knew to spank your cruisers and frigates first with some fighter cover on anti bomber, or if they should switch into a deeper attrition mode and attempt to pop a Cap that is doing AOE repairs on the defenders doorstep in a massed assault, then its going to lose always and forever.

Mobs in every other game understand that healers must die and go meet their Gods sooner than the rest of the rifraf, why dosnt this game's AI? The same holds true that if it can dispatch sizeable DPS thats concentrated into a few cruisers that dont have repair support that dispatching those over the harrasser frigates is going to go a long ways into the AI's favor.

Granted things such as this are by and large call on more seasoned commanders to be able to decypher in the thick of an engagement, things such as this should be evidenced by the AI in "Hard" mode.

But, like I say, as it stands now, even with the fullest addition of another race altogether outside of the two now, I cant realy see anything thats going to deviate from that unles the devs deliberatly create fleet structure potentials that tottaly deviate from those fundamentals, wich is doable, sure, but exotic at best to say there wont be atleast some similarities to those basics.

So, when you say" blah blah blah because (italics) everything that goes into it affects the AI", its tottal BS. I hope you dont take me calling you out on that offensively, the whole point and topic is the AI sucks. Not you.
