I've seen a couple of posts about slow download speeds and installation problems. Are these for the Beta or if I pre-order now can I download and play immediately or must I wait 19 days?

To my knowledge if you pay with the token system that Stardock uses you can play straight away.

Its beta 4 you get access to -- its a build dating back to early November. They won't make a more "finished" version public until release.

You don't get access to anything until the launch...even through TG.net and the token system. It says right there when you go to preorder it:

Sins of a Solar Empire (Digital Download Preorder) is currently available as Pre-Order only. With token purchases, your tokens will be immediately deducted but the product will not be available until it is officially released.

just to confirm it I placed my preorder and sure enough...no access. I even double checked with Stardock support and they confirmed that beta is closed until launch. :(

Lame if you ask me.

Why lame, I dont know any other publisher which gave the community that influence and opportunity that SD gave us.
Even if you wont get the beta two weeks before release ( ask yarlen or kryo about the token system, I dont belive that you wont get it anymore ), it is only two more weeks till you will hold the FULL in your hands.

That shouldnt be a problem :p

sorry...just used to beta testing mmo's....where preorders usually mean you get a headstart on everyone else.

Plus the part about how the people in this thread seemed damn near 100% certain if you preordered you'd immediately get access to beta 4 using the token system...and no one bothered to refute it. Just thought I'd clear it up for anyone else that may be confused like me.

Last week I could swear Yarlen informed someone about being able to get the game if they used the token system despite being told it was not available. Maybe your user account has to be updated to reflect the SN before you can download it.

Ok...I guess I was mistaken....when I clicked on the preorder link that said TG.net Membership 5 tokens...it took me to a page that said preorder for $49.95....the only mention of tokens was at the bottom for 10 tokens and a TG.net Membership. At the time I thought the $49.95 was for the 5 tokens that it said was required to buy the game (on the previous page)...instead that places a regular preorder...the one you have to wait until launch to get. I placed my order again for the TG.net membership as it seems you can't purchase tokens without first buying 10 tokens and the tg.net membership.

My download is sitting at 96% complete.

So just to review what people have to do...if you are not a TG.net member...you need to become one by buying 10 tokens. Then you can get the game (at the beta) for 5 tokens and get something else with your remaining tokens.

If you are already a TG.net member then you just need to have 5 tokens to purchase the game.

Yeah it's a bit confusing to say the least.

that would be yarley or zoomy, you can find them most easily by deleting system32, restarting your computer, and then getting on IRC
