Supreme Commander for the 360

For those who can't bring a PC back from the Future.

If you were itching to play Supreme Commander only to find out that you needed the power of the Monolith to play it, look no further.

This Gamespot page tells you everything about it.

With the sheer power of the PS3, a version for this console can't be far off.

I have Supreme Commander for the PC and, though it plays reasonably well, I can't guarantee that will continue, since the game seems to be doing actual damage to my processor (I don't have the best cooling system).

I'm a proponent of PC gaming, I think its the best platform for gaming (and I learned to touch type playing video games) but consoles have one thing over the PC, optimisation. Once a console comes out you can guarantee to be able to play everything on that console for the next five or so years. With a PC it's obsolete out of the box, and games will be coming out that alienate low end users so this console version of one of the most demanding raw chunks of pure game...is certainly worth a look.

if they make it so i can plug a keyboard and a mouse into a 360, i might get one, but otherwise i will continue humping my computer for hours on end

Then its not the game thats doing damage to you, its your (lack) of cooling that is an issue.

Edit: That said, you are completely correct. PC games will continue to continually update with the times, while consoles will eternally be behind the times in terms of power and ability. For every glass that is half empty, there is one that is half full.

I wonder how much they will have to cripple supcom to make it playable on console.
Take away lots of computational power, take away the best RTS controller known to man, take away the second monitor, that leaves you with a severly handicapped game.

I guess it will be like C&C3 on console, sucky and not worth playing if you've ever seen any rts on a PC.

I prefer console controls for FPS and TPS games, for me the keyboard hinders my ability to drive big cars and blow "stuff" up.

As for the Supreme Commander UI, time will tell, who knows, maybe they'll harness the almighty power of Greyskull and actually pull it off.

Even so, it would still be worth getting minus the Double monitor support (which I don't use anyway) simply for the gameplay, I don't know any RTS yet that pulled of the balance SupCom managed.

you make me hate the internet...

hmmm... DDR is better on platform, it's cheaper. Cost-to-technology, console will be cheaper every time. For example, the PS3 can play DVD, Hi-Def, and Blu-Ray, only for 600ish +. In contrast, buying a hi-def and blu-ray player costs over $1,000. I'm using older numbers, so most like the prices changed.

My, PC, while *much* more powerful than a PS3, cost over twice as much as a PS3.

Other than that, I agree... Smash-Bros Rules.

Um, how do you play FPS without a mouse? I couldn't stand using directional sticks to target...

/agree. Aim-ee stick = ghey.

Anything where the targeting reticle (right word?) zooms back to center sucks.

Considering so many people here are talking about the PS3, you must assume that consoles suck, but, *gasp* there are in fact there are good games, well not for the PS3, but that's because it's a Blu Ray player and little else.

Einlan, re-read the thread. The basic theme is that consoles are inferior because A) their hardware is weaker (iffy but true), and B) their controls aren't very good for many types of games (fact for all consoles...).

On B, the fact is that you can't have a mouse and a keyboard, which makes them inherently inferior for RTS games, and mildly inferior for FPS's. The joystick allows PC's to match their primary advantages in other areas, like flight "sims".

Actually, my rig ends up costing me less than buying a console for my gaming needs... I'll asplain.

I actually use my computer for work. I do some 3D modeling via Lightwave 3d and some drafting and engineering computations for a wood truss plant in the area. So a Dual-core 3 GHz machine with 2 gig of RAM actually has a use for me... something I'd have anyways.
It only costs me about $200 every 4-5 years or so to upgrade my GPU and keep a solid gaming system.

For a console, I'd be buying something for 400-600 every 4-5 years for something that is only good for games. Not to mention, X-box users have the privilege of actually paying to play their MP games online.

So... PC are teh Uberz.

you all need to turn up the sensitivity on your controllers, this shouldnt be an issue for you.

although I agree that return to center = suxorz.

I like mice for Flight and Space simulation games, but not for FPS's, I like the idea of not having to move my wrist of whole arm when I just want to look around a corner.

Also, with games like Crysis, using the mouse diverts some (much needed) attention away from the keyboard, hampering my abilities to use the super detailed controls. Having all controls in one neat, compact place for me is much better.

Wha?

Any FPS I've played on consoles the reticule remains fixed in the centre of the screen..

If you mean the Analog sticks then I prefer them over the mouse since, say, if I want to turn 360 degrees. I may (depending on control sensitivity) need to move my mouse along the desk and halfway across the room OR go halfway (180 degrees) then lift up the mouse and move it to its original position and move it the rest of the way (then move it back again). This can make some flight sims and shooters without adequately sensitive controls cumbersome to work with, since you can't so much drag the mouse as repeatedly "stroke" it at the mousemat to achieve the same affect simply holding an analog stick in position for a few seconds achieves.

Personally, I play with my mouse sensitivity turned way up, so aiming is a motion in just fingers and even a 360 turn is just one motion with my wrist. TF2s Pyro would be almost impossible otherwise. and BTW... If you use an optical mouse, ditch the mousepad. If you don't use an optical mouse, get one.

pyro or scout with slow turnspeed... *shudder*

even snipe needs some good mousespeed or ull never be able to shoot well
