Sins Ladder/Rankings

Check out http://www.myleague.com/sinsplayers/

This is the same system that is used for the Civ4 multiplayer community. You can register for free on it, and when you lose a game you report who you lost to.

If there's no official Sins Ladder/Ranking system, we have an option here. Any thoughts welcome.

This league will be used for the tournament on the 26th of January

Hmmm... we are working developing something similar mainly focused on clans however. I will have to investigate.

UPDATE: Wow rather commercial. About 1/3 of my page is dedicated for purchasing shirts (expensive ones at that) not my cup of tea. Sorry brother.

Yeah I know, but that's just while its free. If many ppl join up it'll be worth paying for and I can clean that crap up.

the situation with the league is that the adverts are there providing money to myleague.com. Once we have a big enough following, i can buy out the site, and pay for it, and then alter any advertising within it.

for the service to be free, myleague.com need to have some source of income for the league, and it is a very small cost to pay for an excellent league system, with tournaments built in and (in the future) it's own personal forum. we just need people to register for it, free of cost, and play in the tournaments to get acquainted with the league. Having done so, you will be able to see your tournament record, and will get a ranking along with all the other people who are playing in the tournament. i'm sure you won't regret it!

Shoot brother, if you are a coder type or simply a highly motivated community member then join us in setting up a dedicated custom system for the community.

Honestly speaking I expected SD/ID to do such a thing a long time ago when Frogboy asked us how we wanted to handle clans. In fact I still half expect them to do something and link it to IC On-line and our SD accounts.

However in the absence of any hard information we will keep plugging along and we can use all the help we can get.

UPDATE: well if it is a matter of some change I can take care of that no sweat. Hell I'm planning on giving away nearly $1000 worth of stuff for our first clan wars event after the release. I will have to ask our code monkeys if they likes that system or would prefer finishing our own and to look into just what is possible code wise with that system as well as domain name issues.

On a side point, I'm inherently skeptical of any "service" that requires you to generate lots of traffic for it while hammering you with ads the entire time before giving you an option to go independent for an additional cost and of course countless email addresses which I'm sure they milk for even more revenue.

the point in me setting up this league before release was so that we could have a try with it, and get used to it, and maybe continue using it in the future. if you have a better system set up and ready to go then that's fine, give us the URL and let's all go give it a try.
i am not at all associated with myleague and personally do not get anything back from you guys signing up. in theory, all that signing up does to me is mean i have more work to do it keeping the league going, and i get no money for doing that.

signing up for the league i have set up has no disadvantages, you can sign up and then only play in the tournaments, or maybe not even play in them. right now i have set up a league for no cost to anyone that signs up, and if you only don't want to use it because by doing so you are giving money to another company, then that's your loss, that didn't hold me back when i signed up to the Civilization myleague ladder, which 2 months after release had 90% of the multiplayer community signed up.

you say you are skeptical, but what of? i have been a member of the civilization 4 myleague site for almost 3 years and i have had no problems whatsoever there, and i am more than glad that i signed up as without it the multiplayer community would probably have gone down a year or so ago, but it remains strong.

i think that you should give my system a go, we have a good 2 weeks before release, that's maybe 2 or 3 tournaments and if you still are skeptical of it then i will disband it. if you give it a go, and like it, we can talk about merging systems together etc. to get one community site that everyone is happy with!

Either way we're gonna end up with a good community ladder/tourney system, so I'm happy. The more options we have the better at this stage. Gives us time to get co-ordinated for release when the masses arrive :D

Please dont take my comments as disparaging remarks about you or your intent. I have simply seem so many gamers taken for a ride over the years that I got sick of it and decided to set up my own service package which I foot the bill for 100% and have been doing so for nearly five years to various degrees.

Regarding the system if is works well and we have full control over it as well as domain references then it just may be the thing we need since it is ready made and our system is still in the prealpha stage yet and I dont expect it to become somethign 100% anytime soon due to school concerns (first priority for all the people working with me on stuff) and learning issues with the coders.

So far just one person has registered for the league, (thanks Smoss :)) i'd really like to give it a shot before the launch of Sins, but we will be needed around 8-10 people to sign up and play a few league games, and also play in the free tournaments. On Saturday, Conan will be advertising in the lobby and asking questions if you have them from around an hour before the tournament is launched, if you have any questions please either e-mail me at [email protected] or be online and in the lobby from 1pm EST (6pm GMT)

Alternatively, come and message me on YIM, my ID is Rokkitauncher, and i am online pretty much all day, ready to answer and dispell any skepticism you guys might have! :)

I've had experience with myleague before, 1Spartan, it's pretty good for what it is... though last time I was there it still sends your password as Get data appended to the URL :P

And IC has been promising that Sins will have a built in Ranking/Matchmaking system since 2005 so any unofficial system should only need to be temporary.

@WedgeHG - thanks for the info.

i am aware that there will most likely be an inbuilt league system, but i would like to:

(a) host a few tournament before release date
(b) have a BETA ranking system to find out who is the number 1 player (i have seen a few threads thrown up lately by people claiming to be the best! :p)
(c) have a tested back-up plan just in case there is no league system available, or if the provided system is poor quality and the myleague system is preferred

i am also after experience with the myleague software, as i think that it would be useful to have the skill in the future in case pre-dominantely single player games are released with a multiplayer community big enough for a league to be required.

@wedge, i agree that myleague are good for what they offer, in my experience, i have seen 0 downtime on their servers, which is fantastic

From The Sins FAQ:

Q. What do you mean by anonymous matchmaking?
A. When you choose to search for a game in this format, Ironclad Online will examine the poll of other searching players and attempt to place you into a game of your selected type against an opponent or opponents of relatively equal skill. Games played in such a manner will count towards your standing on that format's competitive ladder.

No need for myleague.

well by using myleague you are hosting the games yourself and hence deciding all the settings as well as deciding who you choose to play with rather than by randomly picking someone it thinks is close in skill to you.

but yes, i agree my system will probably be obsoleted on release day, but why should that stop people from signing up and playing a few tourneys in the meantime?

bump, since i see no evidence of ranking, and i have won 4 games, and none of them have registered
