Sins goes gold discussion

February 4 is the day

After more than a couple of years of work, Sins of a Solar Empire has gone gold. What an incredible journey it's been.  For the past year, Stardock, the developers of Galactic Civilizations and Ironclad, a new company made up of developers who worked on Homeworld: Cataclysm have been working together to try to create a 4X RTS.

Stardock and Ironclad pushed the release date back a few times to ensure that there was plenty of time to incorporate the features they wanted in as well as time to implement feedback from the public beta.  The final result, the team feels, speaks for itself.

Below are some pictures from the last data of testing...

Sins of a Solar Empire will be available at retail next week.  Pre-orders will be activated Monday, February 4 in the evening EST. Regardless of where you purchase the game, you will be able to re-download the entire game via Stardock Central.

But Stardock Central is not long for this world. A new creation is coming...

If I buy now, can I download the full game, OR the beta and play tonight?

If you pre-order using totalgaming.net tokens, you can download the beta immediately, and will be able to download the full release on Feb 4th. But you won't get the box, tokens is download-only. You'll be able to upgrade from download only to a box on release for $5 + shipping.

You won't get the full release until Feb 4th though.

Don't torture yourselves with beta 4. It's primitive relatively speaking.

Torture for you is beta 4. Torture for us is reminding us of this fact. There's a difference.

You don't have to if you don't want to. If you order directly from Stardock, they'll ship it to you when it's released in the US. You'll have to pay a bit for shipping of course, but no waiting as you'll be able to download the game while it's being shipped to you.

I didn't realize you guys worked on Cataclysm. So you guys used to work with the people who ended up making Sword of the Stars?

Both Kerberos (Sword of the Stars) & Ironclad are in Vancouver, BC and if I recall correctly, they both have folks who worked on HW and Cataclysm (though being 50+ my memory sux).

Speaking of which, SotS was just put on TGN. For those of you that dont own it yet - get it. Then get Born of Blood, the x-pack for SotS. You can't go wrong supporting these companies.

So I want to clarify. I can order Sins for 5 tokens on TG and then I can pay $5 to get the Collectors Edition shipped once released?
Don't forget shipping!

Or you can just click the store link on top and order that way (without tokens) for the same thing without the hassle of having to e-mail Stardock sales. Basically, if you use currency to order, you get automatic CE box plus the ability to download while the box ships. If you use tokens to order, you have to go through the hassle of emailing Stardock sales to upgrade later.

Just make sure if you're ordering with currency you select Digital Download + CD (well, DVD :P) and not Digital Download Only.

Nothing to say but "congrats" to IC and SD. Can't wait to get my grubby paws on this.

...I'll blame you if I fall behind on my thesis work, for the record.

Quick question. Anyone know where that thread listing what countries Sins ships on Feb 04? Canada specifically. Normally we get the same release dates for just about everything as the USA gets, but i noted some issues with release dates in Europe and Australia.

OMG SOTS IS ON TGN? DAMN ffs i got the stupid d2d copies which hardly work with all their shitty copyprotection D:

*meh* I have been modding Mechwarrior 4 for about 4-5 years, I'm planning on modding your game also. I figure I can get the beta, play it a bit, then start modeling stuff for the full game in a while, need to familiarize myself with your shader system, model system, etc.
I actually prefer modding to playing in the long term. Though I'll be playing this for a good length of time I think.

I would like to know if pink space pony is the most powerful unit in the space?

No doubt. I already sent them an email asking if I can transfer my registration to TGN.
