prepaid in full back when, $44.95. wth?

ok, so i see that sins of a solar empire has gone gold. and that it will be retailing for $39.95. problem is, i prepaid for it, and i paid $44.95. so... what the heck? do i get my $5 back?

also, i see that there is going to be a collector's edition for $10 more. how do i get that? do i send you an extra $50 (since youve already got $5 more than the boxed price) and i get upgraded?

i think it would really be pretty crappy if i prepaid the game in an effort to support its development, and then get shafted for $5 and the collectors edition extras.

Interesting this is not what I have come to expect of StarDock.

If you've already pre-paid for the shipped version, you get the collectors edition automatically. If you ordered before the shipping increase, they don't even charge you that.

same here. i was a little surprised when i saw on shacknews that it was gold, and going for $40... i was like, hang on, im pretty sure i paid more than that... dug out the email receipt and yep, i did. and i also dont get the fancy extras even though i paid in full 9 months ago.

i thought, well, maybe i just thought they charged my card, but really they didnt... so i dug up the bank records... no, they did, they charged the full price at the time of the order.

so now im a wee bit annoyed.

i dunno if i paid for the shipped version or not. near as i remember, there was no option at the time. this was back in june last year. as far as i remember there was only the option of paying $44.95 for the game...

none of which answers my question of: where the heck did my $5 go?

ok ive gone back and looked at the email receipt and it does indeed say "Sins of a Solar Empire (Digital Download Preorder) $44.95 Quantity: 1"... so i guess i didnt get the shipped version... although i dont remember that being an option. a collectors edition CERTAINLY wasnt an option.

i kinda really do want the collectors edition... so... i kinda want to cancel the stardock purchase, and just buy the boxed copy in the store... because im not super keen on paying an extra $25 ($10 for the CE + another $15 in shipping) just for the CE...

and, again, even if it IS just the digital download edition, it still doesnt explain where the extra $5 went.

I don't know any of the details on the pricing, but I can assure you nobody is trying to rip anybody off - so please don't drown our good news in this little mixup. Stardock has a very clean record and I'm sure everything will be clearly explained.

oh no, im not trying to be a little bitch about it or anything, sorry if i sound that way... im just trying to figure out a) how i get my $5 back and b) is there some way to get the CE without shelling out for another $25?

really, had i known there was going to be a CE, id have just waited to buy the boxed product instead of prepaying... because id much rather just walk into gamestop and not pay for shipping...

tbolin - I believe SD said it would ship a hard copy if the person paid the shipping cost. Additionally I'm in the same boat as you and I want the special edition. Also SD must sale the game at a higher cost to make the retailers happy. Which I dont mind since SD gets all the money and the developers deserve it in my opinion.

I have however been buying from SD for many years and I can tell you it is a serious company when it comes to customer support. Just give things a little time to work out. I also suggest contacting [email protected] and ask about the shipping to your house.

yeah i sent them an email... thing is im pretty much 100% sure that i didnt pay for the shipped copy (if such a thing was offered at the time) because, like i said, i dont pay shipping for games, i just buy them retail... so since i didnt know there was going to be a CE at the time, i would definitely not have paid for the box, and if i *had* known, i wouldnt have paid at all :) so now im in a little bit of a bind... i really dont want to buy the game twice...

You dont have to rebuy the game I was told after release all we need to do was contact them and make arrangements for shipping. I am in the same boat as you at this point as is a few other beta testers so dont sweat it they will take care of us.

Retailers don't like us competing with them, so we generally fix our prices at MSRP. Stores are free to charge less and generally do.

If you've already preordered from us for download only, you will have the option on release day to buy a box for $5+S&H.

Edit: sick = slow... there were no replies when I opened this thread, lol....

sorry i didnt read this thread sooner, what spartan said was right, you will be able to contact [email protected] after release and pay (i think its $5) and they will send you the boxed (collectors edition) copy as well as letting you digitally download it.

its the "+s/h" that gets me.

id much rather just cancel the stardock order, get my $45 back, walk into gamestop, and walk out with the CE for $50. im not keen on either a) not opting to get the CE and being out the extra $5 ($45 i paid vs $40 MSRP) or b) getting the CE and being out another $20 (+$5 +$15 s/h)... really not trying to rain on the parade or anything, i just think thats kind of an all-around raw deal no matter how you slice it for the folks that showed a good bit of faith by prepaying in full 9 months in advance, considering id have been better off waiting and getting it retail and all...

Stardock direct is the only way you'll get a CE, though. No retailers will carry it.
Don't quote me on this but I believe that they've said that the CE won't be available at retail. At least not right away.

This is a very big point that I think merits its own thread in the News section. Many people seem to thing the CE will be in retail stores.

Yeah, wth is with $15 shipping anyways!?

The collectors edition is heavy, and they were taking a loss on the cheaper shipping.

Most of the retailers aren't offering the Collector's Edition. Just the standard box. The Collector's Edition has an extra CD in it of music, a poster, tech tree map, etc. Not bad for 5 bucks.
