prepaid in full back when, $44.95. wth?

prepaid in full back when, $44.95. wth?

ok, so i see that sins of a solar empire has gone gold. and that it will be retailing for $39.95. problem is, i prepaid for it, and i paid $44.95. so... what the heck? do i get my $5 back?

also, i see that there is going to be a collector's edition for $10 more. how do i get that? do i send you an extra $50 (since youve already got $5 more than the boxed price) and i get upgraded?

i think it would really be pretty crappy if i prepaid the game in an effort to support its development, and then get shafted for $5 and the collectors edition extras.

Right, let me get this straight... I ordered the digital download of Sins in December, was charged $49.95, and now, before the game's even released it's selling for $39.95?

Hmmm, leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Aren't you supposed to reward loyalty?

they handle their preorders strangely, but I think you may end up only paying 40 bucks, for those exact reasons. Don't quote me though.

Hmm true. The download CE version of GalCiv2 had special content. I wish they do same for download version of Sins. But I am not sure.

Ya I have to say I'm a little surprised at this, I suppose one could say we got access to the Beta in exchange for our $5

I would imagine this is just a little PR mistake that will get cleared up and it is only $5 but it's the principal of the matter...

I still think there was some dev mention of the preorderers only being charged 40 bucks when the price went down.

That should cover the drop in price. I wish I could find an exact quote, but I'm pretty certain.

I want the CE, but since I can't place an online order just now, I'm sticking to regular. I know that all the retailers I checked are only getting the regular edition, not any CE.
ohh ok, i was unaware it wouldnt be carried at retail. well in that case, i dont want the CE then. a cd and poster etc isnt worth $25, not to me anyway. thanks for clearing that up.

as for the preorder price... please understand, i didnt "preorder"... i "prePAID"... i was charged $44.95 in july of 2007... not a "hold" or what have you, i used my debit card, the money came out of my account... and ive paid more than the price now... so i DO want the $5 charged back to my card if possible...

Why can't you place an online order.

You also got access to the beta as part of having pre-ordered so early. Thats why the "early" payement.

thats fine, i dont have a problem paying early, i just wanted to be clear that what was stated in the pre-order faq (which i can no longer find) that the money wasnt charged, it was only a hold, was not the case here, thats all. if it was the case, it wouldnt be a problem.

its not like getting jacked for an extra $5 is going to break the bank or something, its just the principle of the thing and all that... not that i think that will actually happen, im sure stardock will write me back and promptly credit me the money... i just wanted to get the lowdown on what was up with the different prices and the CE and stuff...

*shrug* I have a hard time believing anyone was being "jacked" $5. I can understand a bit of disappointment, but really, we all apparently were willing to pay $45 for the game (and agreed to that price!), the chance to have input on the final product, and the chance to play in the beta. As Kryo said, the retailers don't want to be undercut, and $45 is hardly worth complaining about when the average price for PC games is more like $50-60. It's not like they've lowered the online price -- the retail price was an unknown when we purchased.

As far as I'm concerned, SD/IC are welcome to my $45+, at least.

Trying to read everything but medicated trying to deal with bronchitis is only making the words jumble together. I am not sure what I ordered for the $45 (digital Dl or hard copy) but I do know I would want the CE version as 99.999% of us here would. Will the testers be contacted or do we need to contact sales for details of our orders?

As Brian said, going gold is great news and a slight hickup towards the pricing should not get in the way of the great news. BTW. I want my $5 back plus interest  ;)

j/k. I have been happy with SD in the past and I have no doubt they will correct this.

@tbolin, many of us paid and $5 to SD for its value is token at best. Just give them some time to get everything worked out. I'm sure in the end you will not feel abused.

If it makes you feel better I'll give you my WinCustomize Subscription (hell I never use it anyway) I think it cost $20 or something like that.

Anyway I would reconsider tossing words like "jacked" around however. There are a lot of good people busting their asses to support the community and an attitude like that is simply unwarranted. Food for thought...

or as I always say. Please think about what you want to say before you type it up. Be diplomatic and above all be courtious.

If you've already preordered from us for download only, you will have the option on release day to buy a box for $5+S&H.
End of quote

How will that work? Will those of us who only went for download only (such as myself) get an email asking us to send out Credit Card details to Stardock if we want a box, or will it simply be the usual way of purchasing things via stardock (so giving an option of paypal etc)?

Would we also be getting the collectors edition?

I am pretty sure it will be a few hours before we get an answer  ;)

4am and I am still awake.......Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm pretty certain SD/IC are working on a "program" for beta testers and others to get the CE version at a reasonable cost.

I'm sure they are very busy with the release process at the moment. Lets just give them the benefit of the doubt for right now. They really have earned it.

Remember this is SD we are talking about here. Frogboy delivers. You can bank on it!

Funny, its like "Ive bought this car 10 years ago for 30.000 dollars and now you sell it here for 15.000, I want my 15.000."
or
"Ive preordered it from xyz and now amazon sells it for 5 bucks less, I want my money."
And it happens often that a month before release the prices are falling on amazon.

After all you preordered it back then to get your hands on the beta and you didnt care about the price. You could have even took the box version.

I dont think that Stardock wants unhappy customers but dont blame them for things you did.
At last you could cancle the preorder and buy Sins elsewhere.
But please dont say that Stardock is the bad ugly publisher if only you want them to benefit you. (You thought you made a good deal and now you want to make a better one.)

Edit:
by the way, one year ago I didnt buy the CE for that price, I only wanted Sins of a Solar Empire. And now Stardock gives me the CE.
And thats pretty awesome uber hyper mega giga coool :D

I only heard about Sins a week ago, and after mearly reading about it on the website decided immediately that I wanted it. $49.95 well spent $10.00 shipping... Just as worth it. Getting Collectors Edition awesome. I just saw the first video blog this morning, and it has only reaffirmed the awesomeness of Sins. I cannot therefore understand what all the .... is about. It IS worth the money! (and I haven't even seen the beta)

If you did order a disc it will be the CE. You can check on the My Account->Registrations page at the top of the forums (if it's already been charged) or contact [email protected] to confirm if you ordered after beta 4 closed.

Preorders are charged when something is made available for you to download. If you preordered during the beta, then it would have been charged whenever the next phase began after you ordered. If you ordered after the beta closed, then it would be charged at release.

I just canceled the digital download pre-order (made after BETA) and went with the DVD + download. I wasn't expecting it to cost the extra $30 but so be it ($80 roughly £40 total).

All this for a game I've never played - yet desperatly want. I think Stardock must have really done so well with Gal Civ 2 for me to be acting like a fanboy. I don't usualy buy any game until I've played a demo (or friends copy) and read several very positive reviews.

I would dearly love to play BETA IV though. Anyone got a secret link? Yes? No? Please? :CONGRAT:

You weren't charged $49.95. You haven't been charged anything yet. All pre-orders were changed to $44.95.

Frogboy forgot to mention, that when you place the order, SDC contacts your bank / credit card to see if you can actually pay that way. Some banks then place a hold on the monies involved for a few days.
