Ship Movement

basically id have to say im pretty disapointed I thought the game would have had some space between the planets to explore a little find anomalies things like that. like more to discover outside of the gravity wells. also that you cant truely command your units to move in true space, like homeworld 2 you could travel in any direction. the frigates regardless of what someone was saying about scale should definately be able to move while attacking. it does look cooler. and if you think about it a frigate wouldnt just sit beside the capital ship and get pounded by its side guns it would fould flank to the back and target the engines lets say or up above to avoid guns. another thing is I think there need to be more stars in a system, and that you should be able to explore for asteroid fields outside of the gravity wells. I wish there was a better way to explain my idea for this. but either way the games on the shelves in a week or something right. if only id found out about this game sooner and tried the beta sooner. this game could be alot better than it is. No offense to the developers it is good. just not as good as i anticipated it to be, or as good as it can be.

and another thing i forgot that the planets actually orbit the star. so at some point, it would be possible to have, two empires owning two different planets in the same star system, cross closer to each other every few hours or so because of orbit, things like an asteroid belt kind of like our solar system generally stay in the same place. dust clouds like homeworld 2 that your sensors cant penetrate. there should be a way to land armies on the planets surface, and have a battle ensue. the armies would use planet population of course.the battles would be decided with rolls of the di i guess, and based on things like moral and advanced training through research and weapons and armour and such for troops, adding more research capabilities. but really mainly besides all this again, is the fact that the ships dont move, and that I feel too boxed in when playing this, kind of like space empires. I didnt like the jump gates, or warp points. you should have to research hyper space jumps before u can do them, and build jump gates to get to different star systems, and there should be no gravity well :P you cant feel boxed in in a game like this, there needs to be absolute freedom in where u send your ships, more of what you can find, like a really really really good version of master of orion. i wish i couldve been on the dev team, just like everyone else im sure tho :p i do love the graphics and such tho, good job on all of that guys ;)

A) You can move units in true 3D.

B) Orbital mechanics didn't make it into this game -- the devs had it in an early (internal) version, and it just "wasn't fun".

C) There is no "boxed in" feeling in this game.

So many complaints......And he hasn't even played it.

Whats fun is, he clearly hasn't played the game yet. And yet he's posting "suggestions" for it. How Cooper Laurence of him!

Vivid imagination though.......I particularly like the "ships don't move" touch. How many times has this been explained already? How can you feel boxed in when you haven't played the game? Not to rag on the poor fellow, but seriously.....

If you didn't understand, he said "tried the beta SOONER", meaning he played the game, then saw the flaws, then wrote them down.
But here are 2 points for your uneducated sarcasm. 3 points next time if you learn to read.

Other than that, the game could DEFINITELY feel more alive with a few small changes, I kinda agree with the general spirit of his post, if not with the particulars exactly

Again with the Z axis. It's a grand scale strategy game. If you want to focus on moving a single ship up Z axis to satisfy your vanity, you will lose!

There is no benefit to going up Z axis. There is no place to get to using the Z axis. You can already go around planets as the ship itself will go under or over obstacles to get to the other side. But ships going over or under the planet don't usually make it to the other side :( That's cause they are just asking for focus fire.

Seems like OP is looking for a different game all together....

Just about all the things you want are in the game, jsut implimented ina different fashion.

-The colony ships do essentially have ground parties; you just dont control them. You send them down and your done with them.

-There are anomolies to find. On every heavenly body you own you can search it twice for artifacts or other 'anomolies'. This includes astroids you control.

-Maps can have mulitple stars. When zoomed out the stars compose indivdual systems.

-Lastly, Home World 2 is Home World 2; Sins of a Solar Empire is Sins of a Solar Empire. I wouldn't buy this game if it were a Home World 2 knock-off. Don't be afraid of change.

so wait... you want to further complicate a game that wants to cut down on micromanagement? Most of these changes such as the ground forces would severley slow down the game.

and I'm sorry did you just say get rid of gravity wells? so an enemy can jump a fleet of ships in, nuke your planet and then get out of there before any real damage can be caused?

Now i know i havent played the beta but all of the above can be backed up by what Ironclad and Stardock have released, as with any game there are small things that need to be changed but those are huge changes that i think would drastically change, from what i understand of the game

also, would paragraphs hurt? :P

I'm confused, does he have the final game?

Meh, I hate these silly little rant threads. I want more juicy info on the game. One weekend left to wait.
