Ship Names

I swear i saw that the ships had names, and was wandering if its going to be possible to rename individual ships? and if the ships do have names how many different name options are there? rather not end up with 20 ships all called "bob" (example)

Seriously? How do you rename capital ships? I've always wanted to contorl a massive capital ship called "My Little Pink Pony". Don't ask me why....

Excellent news. That was pretty much the only down side of Homeworld 2, your ships never became personal, no names, no experience, just different modules. Glad to hear this, just another one of those features that you always want in a game, but never get. :CONGRAT:

haha hijacking my own thread XD

on homeworld (and 2?) it was possible to move ships up and down where they were... is this the 'z' axis? and if yea, thats not happening in sose correct?

Yes, I actually started to name a lot of my ships after FS2 :( You should see my EVE ship collection - although I actually name a lot of them after ancient Egyptian deities that were never mentioned in the game, so I guess these days it's more of a general thing :P

I use them too, always sound cool as ship names. X3: Reunion has quite a few cool names too, a lot of ancient Gods, Roman, Greek, and Norse. I love naming ships...

i claim all the cool greek mythology names such as:

Chimaera,
Bellerophon,
Colossus,
Minotaur

and all the cool british navy names like:

devastation,
Black Prince,
repulse,
valiant,
vanguard,
warspite,
defiance,
dreadnaught (the ship so awesome, they named all the good WWI battleships after it. It must, therefore, be a kol or dunov)

For me it's mostly going to be names from various mythologies so I call:
Jupiter, Mjolnir, Akatosh, Raksasha, Ravanna, Talos, Aegis, Arkay, Uller, Baldur, Chthulu, Lucifer, Sathanas, Hugin, Munin, Thor, Prometheus, Atlas, Hyperion, Excalibur, Metatron, Ares, Apollo, Achilles, Odysseus, Helios, Sol, Beowulf, Fafnir, Fenrir, Midgar, Vivec, Abartach, Lugh, Lir, Oghama, Sheogorath, Azura, Bohemia, and Tywin.
I know some of those names are from the TES series and A Song of Fire and Ice but I refuse to Make a distiction between "real" and "fake" mythologies.
Also I got a lot of them from Battletech and Freespace 2.

can't forget gilgamesh and enkidu. Also, nobody would want to crew the Sheogorath except the people you really don't want crewing a ship, so you might not want that name, it's rather inauspicious. And cthulu is a mixed bag. He's going to eat someone's souls over that, it's just a matter of whether he eats the crew or your enemies.

Half of those are from Battletech :P There are better ones anyway. Clan names aren't well suited to ships, you'd be better off with things like Daishi, Thor, Loki (Hellbringer), Marauder, Cougar, Vulture, etc etc.

Stormcrow and Timberwolf are definitely cool names. Dire Wolf is nice, but I like the Inner Sphere name for it better :P

single best name for any decent ship must be Nagelfar!
why? that's the only mythological ship i can think of right now. does charons boat on the styx have a name? whatever, it's still a BOAT!

btw SMOSS you missed some of the best mythological figures there :P
what about gungnir, slejpnir, urd + verdandi + skuld, nidhogger, jormungand, tyr, cerberos, hades, agamemnon, menelaos, ajax, hector, patroklos, charon, skylla, charybdis, hephaistos, poseidon, zeus, perseus or argo (there's my second mythological ship... nowhere near as good as nagelfar)...

ha, bad luck for you, unless listed by someone else they're all MINE now :P (picture evil laugh now)

oh, the majesty of a huge cruiser bearing down on his puny enemies, slowly turning to the camera, and there it says nagelfar or agamemnon...  :CONGRAT:
