Gas Giants

what happened?

ok heres my idea for gas giants. max population of 0 since the population is entirely in orbit. 0 emergency thing ie. low bombardment defense. i see gas giants as being fleet capacity hubs and tactical hubs. they can use the gases from the planet to fuel more ships and to create munitions. the GG's should also have large gravity wells. on the tech side of things you should make it that the tech for GG's to be colonized can be researched after fire and ice colonization are researched first, they can only do it after the experience of colonizing terrestrial worlds first. this also minimizes GG's impact on fleet size in the beginnig of the game.

If you want to go deeper, you can build colonies on the moons surrounding the GGs. But you can only build 1-2 things on each moon. So i guess they can be good forward bases. But no one can do that until Ironclad releases a patch that adds moons.

gas giants are one in a series of neutral territories, they are there for purely strategic reasons. They are not for the purposes of settling, no more than the gaseous nebulas.

besides, only a complete fool would invest on a planet destroyed by a single bomb.

Gas Giants have a some minor economic benefit in retail but you still can't colonize them. Ultimately, they are where you want to catch your enemy unprepared so you get a nice chain reaction of exploding gas going on them :)
