This game looks great but I have some questions...

I just stumbled upon this game today when I was actually looking for a different RTS. I am so glad I found it becuase it looks amazing. I am looking forward to the space combat as well as diplomacy and governing. I just have a couple questions about the game.
1) Do you know the controls and if you have played the beta do they work. My number one fear with this game will be navigating 3-D space and being able to manage. I saw a video and the zoomed out minimap that colors all your units looks like a great and supreme-commander esque way to do it.
2) Did he say MONTHS? I was watching a video and the narrator said that a big game could take months. If that's true, its just awesome and it simulates a real war. But did he mean the games unit of months are our "human" months.
3) Can I play with a friend? I know it will have multiplayer battles but I want to know if lets say me and my friend tom both own this game. We decide, "Oh, hey, lets take over the universe together!" Can we play through the entire conquering of the universe (which may take several human months) on and off. What I mean is, we play on Monday and we take a couple planets. Naturally, I know we are both on the same team but we are working together. We sign off. Can, on Tuesday, we resume the campaign where we left off. Also part of this question would be can two humans face off against AI in multiplayer? Thanks for the help, I think I am going to buy this game.

Don't worry about 3-D -- while the game is 3D, you aren't forced to deal with that fact in any way or form.

A large enough game could easily take months to play out, in terms of how long you are playing it.

You can save multiplayer games, and resume them at a later date.

Its very fortunate that there is a multiplayer save game feature. Otherwise, I don't think I would often have enough time to enjoy multiplayer. My question is does it also work in network games as well as online games?
