Posibility of a demo?

I was just kind of curious, is there a chance that stardock will release a demo any time soon? I'm really diggin the game from the looks etc, but in order to play the game on a "par" level i would have to get a new video card. so for a full time student, paying my own way through collage, the ~150 bucks it would cost me to start playing the game for real seems kind of steep without at least having tested the game first.

thanks,

Simbiance

it will come out somtimes in the next month i think. It was said somewhere but i dont know which post. You dont need a massive card to play the game i have a Nvidia 7600gt cost me £120 last year so its arround 80 now and it plays the game with no probs on high on the current build.

I've been wondering about this topic myself. The developers should really throw together a demo as soon as possible or people will consider the torrent-download as the demo...

Its going to be out about a month after release. Why the delay to post release, I'm not 100% sure.

There will be a demo in around a month. Pirating the game won't get you anything but trouble.

your video card may not be able to handle sins, even on the lowest settings you will be barely able to play.

hmm meh... see if you can get a 8600gt , it is a way better card than the 7600gt

8600GT is $97.75 shipped in the USA! I'd never buy ANYTHING from Tiger Direct, EVER, they have horrible customer service!

If someones looking for a really good mid-ranged card they should check out an ATi 3850 256mb. The 3850 has the best price/performance ratio right now.

I'm only interested in your well being because I support your stance towards your customers so I'll give you my unfiltered feedback in the order I came up with it:
- You rushed out the game and didn't think about releasing a demo when you should've.
- You're afraid the game is buggy or boring and don't want customers to find out before you received the money.
- You willingly omitted a copy-protection, so you propably just want people to pirate the game to get a quick look.
- You really cocked that one up.

I'm pretty sure there are far better informed people than me around here and I don't claim that any of the above statements are correct - they're propably outright wrong, but especially because of that I'd like you to know how people like me perceive the lack of a demo at this stage.

That's a pretty bleak outlook Vain. Do you always assume the worst? I know I like games to have demos shortly after being released, but I've certainly never felt such hostility for a game for not releasing a demo.

In any case, you jumped to some way wrong conclusions there. The game has been in beta for, what, about a year now? In no way is it rushed. People have been saying that for the past 6 months it has been more stable than most games at release. The copy protection thing is a policy they have used for other games in the past as well.

Now I admit, if reviews are nothing but hype with no information or possible downsides then I am more wary nowadays (man did I get burned on Hellgate), but the reviews have only had minor issues so far and the devs have been quick to post updates within days addressing the issues.

Well I must say you are definitely wrong! :SURPRISED:

I've been playing this game through out the beta stages and its brilliant. SD and IC have always been above board and your assumptions are complete baseless.

In one single post , you just leveled yourself up! Stupid +1. Why bother saying anything if you know you are wrong?

-The game was supposed to come out in 2006, then 2007, now finally its coming out now in 2008... Rushed? Don't think so... There is no demo before release, that is just the way it is. Better a finished game with no demo, than a half ass'ed game that had an awesome demo.

-The game is buggy/boring... Umm ok... Have you even bothered to read any of the previews or posts on this forum? There is not one post that I have ever seen, where someone has regretting getting into the BETA nor is there one preview where I have read, saying the game looks boring or is buggy...

-No copy protection... You know why? Because most gamers are SICK OF IT... Heaven forbid a company listen to the customers. People who want the game are going to buy it, people who aren't sure are going to wait for a demo, and people who are not honest are going to pirate it, plain and simple.

Wrong indeed. Doing the demo after release has been planned long in advance, and is the same way we usually do them (GC2 and GC2 Gold both had delayed demos as well). Really it's a waste to spend time making a demo (not trivial work as you might think) before the game itself is done and polished to a blinding shine. And when it is finished, you can then also make the demo a far better representation of the game.

You willingly omitted a copy-protection, so you propably just want people to pirate the game to get a quick look

We have NEVER supported, condoned, or in any way desired piracy. The only thing pirating our products will get you is banned. The lack of CD check is for the convenience of paying customers.

First of all let me state, that yea I have downloaded pirated games in the past, but with StarDock, I buy everything they release simply because they do NOT put in copy protection. I think more developers should follow their path and should be applauded for bucking the system and trusting that their customers are honest enough to pay for the fruits of their labor. Generally when I download a pirated version of a game it is because of the copy protection. Look at Bioshock... I have a boxed copy of Biosock on my shelf unopened. My wife and I both installed downloaded versions of this game because the legit version has an install limitation on it. I think it was 4 installs and it never works again!!!

I format my PC that many times a year, so within one year I would never be able to play it again.

I say Stardock is not inviting their software to be pirated, but quite the opposite. They do their best to listen to their customers. Their customers said, "Hey, we hate this starforce crap everyone uses!" So Stardock said, "We will release our games without copy protection."

Hip Hip Hooray for Stardock!!! If more developers left off the copy protection, I may not have to format 4 times a year.
