When does SIns take place?

Is Sins of a Solar Empire set in the future? If so, is Earth still around? I hope it is. I'm kind of bored with science fictions that have humanity abandoning the Earth because all of it's resources are gone, or something like that. Don't get me wrong, though, Sins will be a fantastic game regardless of the back story.

Or is it like Star Wars, where humans are kind of just there?

Problem is, we are going to exhaust at least some of Earth's resources (Metals and the like) at some point, and at that point we'll have to look elsewhere, and like hunter-gatherers following their herds, we'll likely follow the money, so to speak.


However, I'd be intrigued to learn the answers to the OP's questions.

I think its like Star Wars... Humans are just there...

And for the other question, resources never run out around planets , they used to , but that was changed in Beta 4.

I'm just saying that the scenario where we abandon Earth to look for new resources is so overused. Not to mention I think it adds a greater sense of urgency when Earth is present. I don't want to see bad things happen to the place where I live.

And I wasn't really asking if planets could run out of resources in the game. I was asking if the depletion of Earth's resources is the reason humans went into space, thus creating the Sins universe. Thanks for the info, though.

It would be nice to have earth in there, even if it's a crummy world to colonize. I can imagine epic battles fought over it (even if it's truly unimportant) just because it's earth.

It was mentionned in an old interview and in irc that they are intentionally leaving the time frame ambiguous for the time being. No idea why.

its a secret cus its in the past... in the next game we gotta terraform earth XD

and screw up the first 2 times and make mars and venus :P
