Lack of a demo frustrating

i am quite interested in this game but i found out about it too late to get into the beta so i just figured i would wait for the typical demo release a week or two before launch. now i hear that there wont be a demo untill at least a month after launch. sure i could get a torrent version of beta 4 but even with the most trustworthy of torrent sites i run the risk of the game carrying a virus, and it wont be nearly as good as the proper beta 4 (the cracks almost always have missing units, additional lag etc) so im rather frustrated. i want to buy this game but money is tight and i cant afford more than one game for this month. so i suppose i just kind of wanted to point out that a demo release realy can get a good number of people like myself who are on the edge and dont have the money to spend on a game that may or may not be good.

Well, wait for reviews then.

There will be many review sites that will review the game when it comes out. Reading many of them will give a good idea if you will like this game and what its weaknesses are. You can use this to figure out if the game has the type of things you like in a game. Not all games can have their demo out before or shortly after release, the Witcher didn't have it out for awhile.

Please dont pirate any of stardock/ironclad's work, they work so hard on this game and especially with their no DRM stand they deserve our money. Honestly tho, there aren't many good games coming out this month imo so go with sins!

i dont put much sway in reviewers. ive encountered multiple situations where reviewers have handed out rave reviews (doom 3) and i disliked the game very much. i just dont see why they wouldnt release a demo unless they know it will turn customers away rather than bring them in

and as i said i have no intention of downloading a pirated version of the game

There is nothing else good coming out this month... GET SINS!

@Jdog232

Yeah a Month after release is a bit late, i agree, but there many other Games that don't even have a demo(no names this time. :P )

If you unsure just be patient and wait a month, a month is not very much.

btw i have preordered, and i didn't play the beta, so ...hehe

Well thats why I dissect the reviews to see what exactly the reviewer is saying that makes the game so good if he is raving about it. In the case of Doom 3, I absolutely hate linear corridor shooters, and when I see reviewers talk about how it is a linear shooter with lock doors but the reviewer himself still likes it, I would decide that it is not a game for me and not buy it.

Same for galactic civ2. It got a great review and the reviewer talked about content about what I like in 4x games so I bought it. So basically dont worry about what the score but what the reviewer says makes the game great.

There could be many reasons why they cant put a demo out so soon, probably that they didn't have the resources to commit to making a demo before release. I'd rather have a complete game and a late demo. Also think about it, why would they be worried about turning customers away with a demo, when they have had an open beta for almost a year? Wouldn't they have ran away a long time ago?

Hmmmm.... Not quite sure how to respond to the OP.

I will say this however, I have not seen any beta 4 torrents on-line and I did a pretty involved search involving all of the major sites and many private sites about two weeks ago. Also the betas are heavily crippled for that exact reason.

Additionally, your thinking is irrational to me. You start of stating you were to late to get into the beta but that is patently false since up until three days ago (and even maybe now) one could download the beta if they purchased the game. You also claim to be able to only buy one game this month yet the month just started, then you talk about being on "the edge" implying a need to test things before buying. But your prior statement about getting the beta negates such thoughts since to get the beta you would have had to purchase the game. Thus you would not be on the edge. SO I'm confused to say the least. :NOTSURE:

Best reviews on the web are from Yahtzee on The Escapist , sadly not PG-13... So no linky for anyone else I might get in trouble :p Use the google!

Cracks never have missing units or anything at all missing, but.. Yeah.
I would suggest you try the demos from these two games..

Galactic Civilizations 2
Sword of The Stars

If you like both of those games, Sins of a Solar Empire is for you! Imo its almost a hybrid of those two games. And if you even just like either galciv2 or sots, you will find alot to like about Sins as well.
Go for it!

Ironically i don't like SOTS but <3 Sins

Sins does not have much in common with SOTS, other than the fact that a lot of SOTS players are interested in SINS.

Thats prolly why I like Sins

Only if you used TGN tokens -- which would cost more than credit cards, because you have to pay for 10 the first time, instead of 5.

I am not trying to be mean, but the devs look unfavorably on people pirating their stuff, even if it is just a beta (and an old one too) because they reserved it for people who supported their efforts early.
It baffles me, why would you admit to pirating a game on the developers site?

Ummmm, I can't recall any recent game I have purchased that had a demo out *before* release. Demo's are usually out a couple weeks after release. Now granted I'm not a super gamer and only buy a couple games a year but just about anything new I've checked out has a demo *after* release. I just understand what all the fuss is about....

Can be countered by a long list of games that didn't have betas until a while after release. Calm down people, not having a demo for a month really isn't that big of a deal. There are a ton of games that don't have demos at all, and the majority of those with demos didn't release them until a while after the game came out. Sure it'd be nice to have a demo up and running on release day, but it's not something that should be expected of the developers.

Hi guys, I just made this same post in another thread just to explain the demo situation. A lot of people are misinterpreting our intentions and I just wanted to help clear things up.

"As a representative of Ironclad (the company that made Sins) I can tell you we simply could not have made a demo even if we wanted to - we put every last second into making sure the retail copy was as bug free, stable, and fun as we possibly could. A demo would have only hindered this as it would have eaten about a month of development. The demo for Stardock and Ironclad products have always/will always come out after the product so that it is an accurate representation of the finished product and so that it doesn't interfere with perfecting the finished product.

I also want to be very clear about this since no one else has brought it up. In no way are we trying to hide anything or pull one over on gamers by not giving them a demo before release. We've had the beta going since March (almost a year now!) and there was no NDA (non-disclosure agreement). Everyone in the beta right up until now has been 100%, absolutely, positively, completely free to say whatever they wanted about the game. Take screenshots, make movies, do whatever they wanted (check out how old some of the dates on the Sins youtube videos are). We've had as open a development process as there has ever been and I'll admit in the early days it was pretty rough and their was a lot of criticism but we worked through it, in the public's eyes, for the whole world to see. Once we got past that, many testers said the beta became more stable, bug free, and fun than most games at release. Now the almost unanimous response is that Sins is well worth buying, even without a demo and we've got almost a year's worth of public opinion to back it up.

*P.S If anyone wants to verify this, the records are all here on the forums and distributed over various places on the net available via google."

Hope this helps :)

It appears the "fat lady" has done her swan song with that post.

Trust a large community of RTS playes, SINS Rocks, its a great game and it all and more then your hoping it to be.

Most RTS releases lately have been outright horrible. Medevil 2 was just a graphical update to Rome Total War, Supreme Commander is worse than the free Spring engine which does evrything Supreme does, but better (also it failed to live up to its logistical promises). Plenty of trash RTS's were made (Sparta Ancient Wars, that WW2 game I can't remember the name of, C&C4 (don't argue with me, it may be fun but its still just Red Alert 2 but not as good gameplay wise, only graphical advantages. If you like C&C4, go pick up Red Alert 2 Yuris revenge)). The best ones were the ones that actually changed gameplay and made you think at what an RTS is. Company of Heroes, even if you suck at the multiplayer (hint, use cliched tactics that always win till they nerf them aka Ranger spam as Americans right now). Dawn of War with its variety and the very iceberg of competitive micro.

Hmm... I couldn't stand Sword of the Stars at all o.o. It felt like it was trying WAY too hard and decided not to be a very fun game.

SIN is made of pure win. All multiplayer games should follow in the footsteps of long beta time and let the players meld the game into something they will bother to play and enjoy. Companys have been rushing out REALLY pretty games like hotcakes recently in order to increase thier profits, and its working to a degree. Sad, that companys who stay with the games they've built to make them better and actually give a damn about them are at a disadvantage when they are not getting more profits via expansions or monthly fee's, which makes this approach less feasible and pleasing for game companys.
