{FIXED?} Hung at 7% complete...Extracting: PLANETMODULE_PHASEORBITALMETALEXTRAC...

Windows XP Pro x64 issue(s)...

Uh Oh....

I've started from a complete reinstall of SDC (deleted all references to SDC and SINS) TWICE now and it hangs at the place listed above. What's going?

WinXP Pro x64

A reboot is required after installing SDC?

No, but rebooting is always the best solution to errors that make absolutely no sense.

Yeah, I was hoping not to hear that particular answer! Guess I'll deal with it later, when I get home. I'll keep you all posted.

I would also ensure you do not have any security applications running that may be locking files and/or preventing access. This can sometimes hang up the installer at some point.

Something else you might try is right clicking on Sins and choosing "Download and archive". This will download the entire game to your system so you can then just restore it from an archive (File->Restore Archive Ctrl+R) which will go much faster.

If you still have a problem, please let us know.

Yah, sorry. That problem sounds like it falls into the category of WTF. If you have deleted all the old stuff and reinstalled SDCentral, there's absolutely no reason why it should hang, let alone on a particular file.

I'd say double check that you've really removed everything, but I suspect you've already done that.

It doesn't help that I'm trying to do this from work, through my Hamachi VPN! A reboot kills the VPN, so if that fixes it, I won't know until later.

Juggling my job and fun at the same time is probably the reason. I just wanted to be able to play the minute I got home... ;-p

Slimp - that sounds like a cool setup.  You doing it with RD via your VPN?

In my experience, firewall software and such tend to be the culprits on this kind of thing.

Yeah...RDP through Hamachi to my home PC. It is wonderful!

The catch is I've remoted in and updated to new beta versions/patches several times before, without any gotchas! I'm sure you guys are right and it's one of those WTF errors. I'll get it figured out! Thanks!

;-p

I have the same problem on my end- everything downloaded fine but it hangs at 7%... have rebooted, will reinstall SD and let you know.

Spec:
ABit FP-IN9
Core 2 Duo E6600
Corsair XMS DDR2 [2gb]
Nvidia 8600GTS
SB X-Fi Plat
WinXP X64 Pro

Also to be noted is that the install won't cancel once it hangs on 7%.

Update:
Reboot is a fail.
Download and archive is a fail.

How can I delete downloaded files and just transfer them over again?

D'Oh...

Looks like a NEW WinXP Pro x64 issue then, if I'm not the only one with the problem!!! Sucks being an early adopter for Windows OS'es (to ones they don't work on anymore). I really would rather not install 32 bit XP if at all possible! Thanks!

holding on confirmation, but when I switched to server 2 it said that stardock had "errors" and patched it automatically.

note: also had the extraction issues.

I have vista 32, but I get stuck ~ the 50% point.

edit: nope, nevermind. issue persists.

Is it possible that this is a CRC problem?
Try achieving it first, that might help. if it doesn't than you won't have to download it again.

Anyone else with WinXP X64?

HEHE!

You wouldn't happen to be running AVG, would you? That's the only anti-virus junk running on my system.

Methinks it's an installer issue...I won't know for sure until later tonight, after I get home from work. Looks like I'm going to be in for a rough one!
