How long does a game usually last?

About an hour? more? I haven't finished a singleplayer map yet, just getting used to the interface and build order.

Well a small map would take about an hour
A medium a few hours
And a large could take a few days
Haven't tried anything bigger then that.

Four or five stars can make for very, very long games. It snowballs quickly and with no regard for your free time or personal health.

My five star, 131 planet game is at the 6.5 hour mark. There are still two factions in my star system that I have to root out.

One of the ten players is gone. Six of the eight have no presence in my solar system--I haven't even seen ships from one of the colors. Also, since teams are unlocked, this could end up taking a very, very long time.

On the other hand, you can finish a quick map in an hour.

Well I haven't tried any small maps so I cannot say. But my random medium game so far has lasted about 4.5 hours give or take with no immediate end in sight. I am not brave enough yet to even dare a multi-star game yet.
