Something seems wrong with this game...

Tell me if its just me...

1. The game is painfully slow to play... Like not buggy slow... Its just a slow game.

2. The pirates thingy is seriously out of control... Mainking the game really annoying to play.

You can change the pace of the game when you start a new one, in my personal opinion I'd say it's current speed is spot on for the kind of game. Plus the combat is plenty fast enough right now, but obviously this is a matter of my opinion.

As for pirates, there are a couple of ways you can get them away from you, first off is get rid of that bounty on your head - give another player more bounty. Secondly take out their base, if there's pirates there'll be a base somewhere in your system but make sure you have plenty of firepower.
Thirdly I know the Vasari have a research that reduces the strength of pirate attacks, as for the Advent I haven't dared to touch them yet.

At the end of the day, a simple capital ship + backup frigates will be enough to take out most pirate raids, it's just a matter of having the fleet on hand.

I haven't even played yet but I'm sure it's the same eith every game when newly released.....

People always complain it's too hard to start and then a week after it's been out everyone complains it is too easy. Just give it some time so you can get used to it and get good :)

It is real slow on slow - which I like. But be careful about the lane distance lines. It took over two hours for my ships to reach the next one. I like that must it would simply kill nearly all RTS players. I also like the current pirate system. They are a force to contend with to be sure and on hard they rock. I make sure to put one in each system.

I agree the game is slow. There's not enough micromanaging for my taste to pass the time. Ships can take too much punishment making every battle last much longer than it has to do.

On top of that I really dislike there's no single-player campaign. The small missions they offer are just silly, and can not be called anything close to a campaign.

I'm disappointed I paid for a skirmish and multiplayer game only. I'm also disappointed the ship follow the same archtype across all races. There's too little variation in my opinion. The only thing that really differs is the way they look and the race research.

On the positive note, I heard Ironlore is working on a single-player campaign so hopefully that'll arrive sometime soon. The game engine in itself is nice and I bet we'll see some brilliant and fun mods for it. There's nothing wrong with the mechanics, just the content. This is my opinion and no one really has to tell me something else, but feel free to tell your own view of the game.

I agree sorta.

It's slow...it's supposed to be. You have time to react to the changes. It's almost barely an RTS, but it is. Things can happen real fast, but then there is usually a lull to react accordingly (bad or good).

Pirates. I feel are just a tad overpowered. I guarantee they will be changed. But I accept them as an unrealistic gimmick. But one that really works and has great potential. I mean Pirates that tell you when they are going to attack and precisely who and why and ships out of thin-air. As goofy as all these facts are, they add a minigame that can turn the tides of battle. I love the last minute warning for bounty, bet in a MP game this can turn into a version of an Ebay last second bid rush.

The games is slow on purpose I think. How do you manage a vast empire with a faster game? Actually is not that slow... I prefer it that way than in the civs or galcivs series because who like to wait for the other player to finish their turn?

I think Soase is GCII in total real time and 3D it's a great improvement!

Yesterday I was making war and not aware of one of my world being attacked! A faster game would have implied a lost a wold without my knowledge of that!

Pirates are great but sometimes they are far too numerous! I stumbled upon a planet with dozens of them around! One big fleet lost for me!

I tend to play on fast otherwise I find myself just waiting for things to happen. I think I am meant to be commanding fleets or something in the meantime I don't know. I'd agree with ships taking too much punishment though. I mean if my huge nasty battleship is blowing up a tiny frigate, I expect it to be dead in no time at all, not take 30 seconds.

Slow? Are you guys kidding? I'm playing my first game on Normal speed and I can just barely keep up with everything and I only have 2 planets and about a dozen ships. It just feels frantic to me. But then I'm a turn based guy. Maybe I need to start a new game on Slow speed and it will feel better to me until I get used to this game.

I think the game is a bit slow on the single system levels. On multiple systems that slow speed might be necessary for game play ability. I don't know for sure as I have not graduated to that point, but its my guess

Ok this game obviously isn't oging to be for everyone, it's designed to be an epic space RTS not your standard Dawn of war where games can be won of lost in 5 minutes. Personally i'm really liking how slow the game is, it's refreshing to know that if i go do something else for 5 minute or get called away during a multiplayer game for a minute or two i know full well that i'm not going to be destroyed when i come back. This game isn't about instant winning or fast paced games (however it can be if you change th game speed, however it's till slower than your standard RTS)i much prefer to have a slower relaxed game RTS which you just can't get unless you play a turn based strategy game, and now they are BORING. The game plays just as it's meant to and if you've been reading the forums whilst the game has been in beta you would have known that this isn't the game for the Starcraft rush tactic kind of gameplay.

my little message to the devs

DONT TOUCH A THING IT'S FINE!

/Touché. I hate when people try to make an epic strategy into a mainstream 1 day product, like SupCom happened to fail a bit ^^! (IMO)

By slow pace I just mean sometimes I find myself struggling to find things to do, except wait for resources. On normal speed I found myself watching alot rather than actually doing anything. I'll give it another go tonight maybe it was the tiredness playing on me :)

EDIT: The pirates do get a bit silly. In the last game I played the biggest threat I had was the pirates. The computer didn't bother to do anything but send scout frigates to their doom.

For what it is worth regarding the pirates, I think the intel one gets is pretty realistic and not a gimmick oriented sales point.

The information available to our current governments in this day and age is simply mind boggling on some levels. I know I used to do counter intel work for the military many years ago and I only looked at battle field space. So for something like a fleet of pirates to gather and plan a large attack and not even considering passive monitoring tech, surely that information would leak out given the nature of the entities involved. Thus it is highly likely a government would become aware of the situation from both direct and indirect information sources from both formal and informal avenues.

Additionally, they[pirates] are also letting you know they want to be bribed to look elsewhere for their bounty. This is also realistic and happens every day in our world now.

If this game follows the same pattern as GalCiv II there will be updates and, eventually, expansion packs that adjust the balance and incorporate features based on the feedback from this forum. Pacing a real time, multi player, 4X game must be challenging - you need time to plan your strategy and manage your civilization but no longer have control over the turn button. I'm sure a lot of time and effort was invested trying to get this right and more will be now that the game is out in the wild and feedback starts coming in from retail users. Because it is a Stardock game, odds are that it will improve with age.

As a brand new 4x type game player I like that it is slow so I can take it all in. Some of these newer "RTS" games like World Conflict move so fast I feel like I have to rush through each mission.

As a noobie I need time to react to all the new stuff I need to learn, so far I am enjoying it.

In the game is too slow, then start a new game on the Fast setting. ;)

We won't be releasing a Campaign as a free update. If one comes, it will be part of an expansion pack (and won't be arriving for some time).

I'm with you. I like to take my sweet time and over analysis things. Then and only then do I want to make a choice and when that happens I want to be able to sit back and watch the results without worrying about some major issues somewhere else to deal with in 30 seconds.

I wouldn't mind pirates if my capital ships were worth something.I should be slicing through these guys like butter instead I see a single stream of weapons fire every so often and my fighters buzzing around with pop cap weapons while the pirates gang up and pound me.And I have tried capital ships and frigates against pirates.Same story while the pirates concentrate on one frigate my cap ship is streaming little piddily weapons and taking to long to kill a single pirate ship. You also bump up against the logistics cap pretty early even though I have put in research into log.

"We won't be releasing a Campaign as a free update. If one comes, it will be part of an expansion pack (and won't be arriving for some time)." - I think we (the modders/fans) could probably Forge a campaign of sorts... especially if more of the lore is made available.

I played a medium map (1 system, ~20 grav wells) with 3 AI and me, and the pirates started small and got enormous. They had like 150 ships in their system, plus 19 defense platforms. I'm not sure I could have fielded a fleet big enough to take them unless I owned the whole map.

So I built Novaliths at several planets and blew them away. 3 Novalith shots = dead pirate base = no more raids. The ships are still there and still destroy the poor scouts the AI keeps sending there, but they don't raid anymore.

Granted, it takes a while to get Novaliths...

Speaking of the Forge, has anyone actually made a playable map?

Currently there are several reports where edited galaxies don't work in game.

Pirates are a bit OP , it will change I hope...

And game speed would be a bit better if ships moved 1.5x faster on the highest speed.

That's definitely reassuring.

About the game speed, I think everything is fine. On normal I think the research time, ship movement ...etc... are about right.

The only things I don't like is battle is kinda drag out, ships have too much HP. Watching my KOL pleasantly take one good minutes to blow up a frigate, something just doesn't feel right. I'm going to play vanilla game for some times, then I'll mod it to my taste  :)

I was hoping that the campaign and additional content would be made free to all, as part of the reward our ongoing support for the game. If it is an expansion and have to be paid for, please make it cheap.

As it is I am looking forward to the modding community to come up with as much content as possible. Who knows if I am hit by the creativity bug I would make my own stories.

Have fun! I just installed my game and currently updating my drivers before I play.
