Very Dissapointed?

Well after playing about 10 games, I've come to realize that there are some pretty big flaws in the game.

1. Its too slow, and takes way too long to finish a game, and I've only played on small random. I played one multiplayer game, and my opponent disc. after 40 mins. Probably due to pirates.

2. In all 10 games, I've fought my "actual" opponent twice. The other times its all been me vs. pirates. When I see them come with like 15+ ships, I usually just quit, becasue its really stupid. From reading the forums, its clear 90% of the player feel the same way.

3. There is nothing to do in this game but wait for resources, which clearly means they don't generate fast enough so that we can buy stuff. This contributes to the slow factor... This game needs to be at least 5x faster so that games can be played within a reasonable period of time. Games that take hours to finish, skirmish wise, fail.

4. I think once IGN rates this game, its over... We will all move on... Sigh...

This game doesn't aim at being a 5 min rush RTS. The slowness at the beginning is necessary so you don't get overwhelmed towards the end when you're playing in a larger galaxy

Set the game to "Fast", "Fast Research", "High Resources"?

If you don't want to play a game that ends up being over 40 minutes, this is really not the game for you. I play the Empires mod for Half Life 2 and each round of that is about as long (as well as most RTS games)!

How out of place. :O This is 4X RTS, not normal rts. Actually, after you have played RTS long enough you will begin to understand and like this types of games ^.^!

For faster RTS I would recommand waiting for Starcraft 2, Spore or Total War: Empire. ;)

This isn't CNC3 where the game is meant to be fast.

Indeed, games like these take longer, Ironclad included the option to save multiplayer games for a good reason you know. ;)

If you want a twitchy fast paced RTS, go play some. There are more than enough of them out there. Sins is part 4X meaning that you start off at a slower pace than you're used to i guess.

1: Go play Starcraft.
2: lol. "Oh noes pirates!" *disconnect*
3: I think it's fine, see 1.
4: Perhaps you should 'move on' to #1.

so this game is like a city builder alost right? like u slowly build up an empire, and since it is not a twitchy rts, i might actually play this for a long time.

you complain about not seeing your enemy yet you are the one who always quits...

As an addition to my previous post (curses eteri posting before I edited)... I don't mean to sound rude, but it really doesn't sound like the game for you MiKeL.

I also do not agree with the OP. Without trying to flame anyone, but as most have stated you apparently had the wrong expectations. I clearly prefer 4X games over the likes of starcraft/C&C type RTSs. Sometimes 4X does get boring so I really like the mix b/w the two genres that this game offers. I will continue to prefer stuff like GalCiv2 and the Paradox games, but when i want intelligent fast paced action ( :P ) i'll play this game.

You can create maps without pirates. End of problem. I bet a patch will be released soon which will enable players to disable pirates, making existing pirate installations in maps "abandoned" or invisible. Even if this can't be done, just make your own maps (so so simple thanks to the fantastic GForge) or wait for new maps to be released which do not contain pirate factions.

As for the "There is nothing to do in this game but wait for resources" comment, well, a lot of RTS games require a certain amount of waiting while you gain enough resources to build something. However, there are plenty of things to do in this game to keep you occupied while you wait for resources, such as explore, diplomacy, research, planning strategy or simply admiring your forces / assets in all they're glory!

1) Actually, that was known before release and properly announced on the forums. In any case, I think if at all, it's too FAST, not too slow.

2) Agree somewhat, the pirates are annoying in their frequency. However, the raids themselves can be easily countered, quitting just because they're coming is ... well ... lame. Put a bounty out, and they won't bother you this time!

3) Turn up the game speed. See 1)

4) Quite the contrary. It's underrated. TBS and slower, deeper RTS get far too little coverage these days. :(

;:[Yarrh!], don't mess with the pirates!

*giggles*

4x game, Pirates can be neutered by editing a text file. That is all.

That's a closer description than a fast paced RTS ;) Sins can be as fast as you like it to be (within limits, obviously), but it's not nearly as slow as some turn based games can get :P

It was designed to not be a twitchy RTS, though.

These kind of games take time. I hate rushes in games, I do not like the game to be over within 5 - 10 min. I love long lasting games and battles. Also who the heck cares about IGN, they can rate the game whatever, that doesnt mean anything. IGN is nothing, same with Gamespot. Its us the fans that matter not someone who just sits there and criticizes games for a living.

Hmmmm.... I dont even know how to respond to the OP right now I'm to brain dead from 16 hours of work and no sleep last night playing part of only one game - a small part at that.

Wow! 10 games and apparently the longest game was 40 whole minutes.... Yet the game is to slow AND to long. Maybe I"m to tired to clearly understand the OPs position. Nothing to do but sit and wait... I play on slow with super large settings and I often find I dont have enough time to analyze everything properly.

Additionally, I think IGN already did two reviews on the title and both were rock solid.

Anyway, I guess some people suffer from some serious ADD and or limited strategic or tactical capacities.

It's frustrating because when C&C3 was released people complained it was the same old game just with shiny new graphics, stardock try something new and people bark they want the old kind of gameplay. This is the problem with the games industry at the minute and exactly the reason why Stardock don't have a publisher for this game in the EU yet.

Funny that the two top threads at the moment are "This game is way way to fast" and "this game is way way too slow" :) Maybe it has been a bit unclear in marketing about what type of game this is supposed to be...expectations seem to be all over the place.

40 minutes? Is that all? Games of Age of Empires last longer than that...I've played longer games of C&C Generals for crying out loud. What kind of ultra-fast paced starcraft were you expecting?

2. In all 10 games, I've fought my "actual" opponent twice. The other times its all been me vs. pirates.

You know, I keep hearing about the pirate problem. I've never encountered it myself, as I usually win the bidding wars and then wipe out the pirate base but I guess it can be a bit of a problem. Personally I'd prefer a system where raids were more common but less powerful.

3. There is nothing to do in this game but wait for resources, which clearly means they don't generate fast enough so that we can buy stuff. This contributes to the slow factor... 1. If you're waiting for resources you don't have enough planets
2. There's a speed option in the game setup menu
3. I played a 5 hour game yesterday. It was probably the best time I've ever had playing a strategy game. This is not supposed to be an ultra-fast RTS.

4. I think once IGN rates this game, its over... We will all move on... Sigh...

Given IGN's track record with Stardock games and long games (they had a series about a guy who played Galactic Civ 2 on a huge galaxy for a month, same game) I highly doubt Sins will get anything less that a high rating.

I could not agree more and its this attitude of gamers not knowing what they want that has allowed the gaming industry to take advantage of them and has led to a downward spiral of service.

Post like the OP's are just a clear sign to me people don't know how to read. I haven't hardly played the game, but I'd know better than to complain about those issues because I actually read the forums and game play descriptions.

This game was never billed as any of the things the OP seems to think it should be. It's not an RTS, it's a realtime 4x. It's not a skirmish game either. It's an empire game. Whining it's not what it's not supposed to be is stupid, like complaining Oblivion was a poor FPS.

As for pirates. Well, I have to give the OP credit there. Clearly people are going to be divided on that one.

I like the fact that someone finally created an RTS that I can play at a relaxed pace. I'm a little tired of those games where battles are over in seconds, and the whole game can be won in a few minutes with a rush or some late-game massed unit assault. People who want that kind of game can take their pick from the half-dozen or so currently sitting on store shelves, or they can suck it up and wait for StarCraft 2.

the pirates add an element to the game thats largely missing from RTS games, the ability to use other means than just your own forces to influence whether a game is won or lost.
