Sins Lore Influence?

I was reading through the lore just awhile ago, and as I kept reading the storyline seemed to be drawing numerous parallels to Alastair Reynold's Revelation Space series. It also involves deviant humans who've attained a collective mind through prevalent use of cybernetics and technology far behind the rest of humanity. These deviants also are running from an unknown threat.

Just an interesting tidbit I noticed...

What I wonder is, what could the Vasari be running from? It must be a pretty bad ass race... hopefully we'll see in an expansion.
