I dont ever get any slowdowns of any kind, the game runs great no matter what is happening on screen or what buttons I am pushing (Alt, etc). FRAPS shows me running 75FPS most of the time and it can dip down to 60FPS in large battles.

I have everything maxed out as far as settings in the game go.

Windows Vista 64 (Current on all MS updates)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
EVGA 680i Mo/Bo (Latest BIOS)
2GB Corsair SLI RAM (2x1GB)
Geforce 8800 GTS (640MB version)
Creative X-FI (64 MB X-RAM Version)
250GB WD HD (7200 RPM 16MB Cache)

All the latest MS certified drivers, settings on the video card are set to Application Controlled. No overclocking and all BIOS settings are default.

Knowing that some A/V programs can cause problems with games, I am running Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 and it doesnt seem to interfer with any of my games. Always try disableing your A/V if you are having problems with games....you never know.

Hope this helps track down the issues you guys are having.

I actually use FRAPS to display the frame rate.

Many use FRAPS:
WWW Link

But the framerate drop is noticeable that we dont need to see the FPS count.

Will the 1.03 fix work for the text that reports autosaves, game paused or unpaused, etc., or just for the colored message text?

I assume it's going to fix everything that has to do with onscreen text.

It did not fix the text issue for me, still getting slowdowns like before. Can anyone confirm this?
Yes, I can confirm that the problem persists, though it doesn't seem as bad as before.

Text doesn't seem to be always connected to it. Perhaps it's some kind of overlay or transparency issue. However, why it shows up (and so badly) when only text from whispers is on screen is way beyond me.A lot of staring at an empty planet while watching processor usage in Task Manager and frame rate in game led to this info. Hope it's useful.

The text lag never seemed to be all that bad to me. In fact most of the lag I get in Sins seems mostly random or tied to larger engagements. I realize that there is going to be a drop in battles with hundreds of ships, but to me it seems like some of the framerate drops are tied to Capital Ship abilities or fancy effects like the Guardian's shield sphere. Sins of a Solar Empire is a great game, definitely one of the best RTS titles in the last five years, but I think it could use some serious optimization. Engine performance comes before game balance, which in actuality is better than most of the whiners think.

Thoughts?

Someone in the modding forum is thinking about removing all the fancy effect particles, if they ever release that you might give it a try.

On a 8800GS, though, you shouldn't be having too much problems.

Im getting worse slow down since the patch. I just built my computer a month ago its a
e8400(3ghz), 8800gt(512) 2 gigs ram It handles crysis fine i shouldn't be having problems with sins.

I'm still getting significant unpleasant frame loss whenever chat text is on the screen.
i've got frame loss too.
In low or high graphics. Doesn't matter in fact...either which version too.

I have a similar problem but whats really noticeable is when I go to the tech, black market, and those screens. Then the frame rate goes down to what seems like 15 or so. This only happens late in game, about 3-4 hours in.

Seems a little better, but chat related FPS drop is definitely still present in 1.03 for me.
Yeah its still there. Slightly improved but its not solved.
