No Demo?

Hi, people.

Yaknow, the more i read about Sins of a Solar Empire, the more i really want to check it out. However, i am a cheap man, and i'm not entirely sure my computer can handle it. All my system requirements are at the recommended (except my video card, which might be a huge problem, granted, but i think it's fairly close to recommended), and i'd really like to try it out to see if it will run smoothly before i go ahead and buy a retail copy. Is there no way to sample the product?

well im running the game on a 2.0 ghz p4 with 1gb ram and a radeon 9250(which is below min. req.) Im running texures and models on high and bump mapping on low and am getting no slowdown. I think you'd have no problem running the game at a steady speed.

Hi everyone,

I'm also interested in trying out the game before I buy. I noticed Sins over at Penny Arcade, and he sounded so enthusiastic about the game I had to check it out. I noticed that Stardock was the creator (I love GalCiv2), so I was almost ready to buy it on the spot. However, the $50 price made me a bit hestitant, because I'm pretty broke right now. I really want to try the game out, so I'll try to check back in a month to see if the demo is posted yet. Hopefully I don't forget.

Oh and I created this forum account just to provide feedback from a possible buyer :)

Cheers

Gabe and Tycho certainly do NOT casually give the nod to any game on PA, so Sins has GOT to be good!

I can certainly understand TRJR's position, so the upcoming demo is greatly appreciated (even though I've already bought the game...)

TRJR, you might want to post your system's stats. I'm sure Kyro or someone else here on the forums could tell you how well Sins will work on your rig.

And here's an interesting factoid for you folks at Stardock. Possibly, you already know about this sort of thing, but here's the story just in case you don't...
I pre-ordered Sins through my local Gamestop. When I went to pick it up a few days ago, the manager said, "Good thing you ordered that. You made several other people happy."
"Huh?" says I.
"Oh, some other guys were in here looking for Sins. Since you pre-ordered it, we got four extra copies. They all sold out by 3pm today."
"Uh, you mean you wouldn't have gotten any copies of Sins in the store if I hadn't pre-ordered?"
"Yeah, well, that's a corporate thing. If we don't get any pre-orders for a PC title, we don't order any copies for that store."
"I see..." I said as I looked at the walls crammed to overflowing with console titles of every possible game you could possibly imagine, then let my eyes wander to the solitary rack with the meager collection of PC titles on it.

I don't think I really realized until that moment just how short a stick PC titles get from Gamestop. Too bad. I really enjoy shopping at that store. Oh well, at least we've still got outlets like COMP USA... oops...

I totatlly agree. I had heard about this from my cousin's roomate who was in the beta. He said the game was amazing. That same day I went to the PA site and saw Tycho talking about it and after how pumped they both sounded I'm really looking forward to this games release.

I agree, I work there and I wish they had more PC stuff, its mostly a console store. Some of them don't even carry PC games.

Posting to add that I really desire a demo as well. I'm not willing to shell out 40 bucks uncertain that my computer will run it, and I don't want to pirate it to see if it will run for fear of losing motivation to buy it.

It looks excellent, and I hope to see a demo soon!

About a month from Feb 7 is Mar 7, he still has a fair amount of time left on his rough estimate.

Has anyone heard anything about the demo? I have a friend who really is interested in this and wants to try it before he buys. I already own it and want to play it with him.

I'm also one of the many eagerly awaiting the demo.

The screen shots and trailers look awesome but there is little to replace seeing for yourself. :)

1.03 just went out the door this week, so the devs are working on the demo now.

Will they post here somewheres when the demo does come out? Yup I like Civ 2 also. The demo on that sold me on it. But the hype that Sins has so far make me drull until the demo is released. Target has the game for $39.99, at least the Target in New Jersey has it. HOpe the demo is on its way here.........

Do we have to keep checking back to this post, or can you send an announcement to the stardock mailing list?

Just keep an eye on the front page. I really wouldn't expect someone to dig up this thread just to post an announcement here. :p
