Interdictor ship needed badly in singleplayer and other issues

I find that its impossible to end a single player game on large maps with the AI. Whenever I jump in with a large fleet to one of their planets, where ALL of their ships are assembled, they simply run and jump to a different planet while I destroy their colony. I jump after them, and they jump away again... on and on. Then eventually, they get to the end of the line and they simply turn around and jump away in the opposite direction, colonize the planet I just bombarded, and jump away again when I jump in. The never ending cycle of being raped by frustration.

How can I possibly win when theres no way to stop this, especially with 2 other opponents in the game who are attacking my planets. This trend could simply go on forever, unless I had an interdictor ship to force them to stand and fight. Unfortunately...the phase jump inhibitors are stationary, and theres no capitol ship ability that prevents phase jumps...*sigh* I would really like to see a mod or a patch that would allow the different races to research this, even if it was late stage research it would be worth it...

Also, whats with the Novalith Cannon? Its stationary... I had been lead to believe you could bring it with you and destroy planets (or rather make them unlivable/unable to colonize). It seems like a giant waste of time to sink all that money into the research. Lastly, whats the point of planet defenses when they cant even destroy siege frigates? The computer jumps in with 7 siege frigates, and I have 7 or 8 turrets defending the an asteroid, yet they can't even destroy 2 of them before the colony is destroyed completely, then they jump out...

I love this game but I can't even finish a single player campaign that has 3 or more players because the computer is a cheap, backstabbing coward who will attack you where you have no ships, but won't actually fight your fleet unless it clearly has the upper hand. Any time they are outnumbered by even a small margin they run. How can I have massive fleet confrontations that are the #1 reason I bought this game when the computer runs away from every fight? I would play online but usually the result is everyone disconnecting until I'm fighting all computers again. Sorry if I typed too much but this is becoming more frustration then fun.

if it does attack a planet, which the Ai has a amazing ability to know exactly when your fleet leaves,

You may notice its (frequent) scouting runs? Each of the three races has a technology to keep an "eye" on the system without being seen. TEC have the orbital cameras, the Vasari have phase cloak, and the Advent have "lingering presence". Betcha the AI uses that... a lot.

That is possible. I am playing on a custom 40 star map with 9 hard AI opponents and so far have witnessed at least two power shifts. First they were all proposing blowing up the strongest guy on the block who just happened to be allied with me; but as soon as one of them got hit in the teeth harder than usual, they all sort of shifted focus, backstabing bastards that they are. Reminded me of sharks. :D

I also know for sure at least four of them have allied with another faction. So theoretically it is possible they have all signed peace accords, or that you are simply so powerful they see you as their greatest threat.

Well its all about if devs wants to have fun/frustrating game. Nobody wants to play a chasing game... some guys can tell i must get used to it, but hell no! games are about relax and have fun, not learn a strategy which is boring/frustrating. Im a fan of epic fights too... look on screens from the game... big fleets against each other -> thats what people wants. I dont want only criticise, its very good game.. but needs debug a little

heh, no such thing as a boring strategy, if there is then its not strategy O.o;

Didn't read over the whole thread, but why not just nuke them with a bunch of super weps? In my experience the AI died when we took out all of their planets, we didn't even have to go in and finish clearing them out. If you are TEC at least, you can just nuke their planets with novalith cannons and be done with it.

The Novalith and its counterparts are well done. There's nothing to complain except perhaps the missing easy accessability via the empire tree. In my current game with 6 star systems I have just conquered my neighbour and used his more remote worlds to build 6 of the Advent siege weapons and set them on auto fire. They do not only fire at planets in their own system but at other systems too.
The result is quite nice: my offensive fleets are liberating another system from a player who has expanded to that system while my siege weapons spread the cultural glory of The Advent to his home system, slowly taking it over. His central worlds are already down to 50-60%. I think he has about 15-20 minutes before his forward colonies will stand alone before the combined might of my fleets.
All he could do against that would be to fight a way through the choke points (2 to get them all) + my defensive fleet and proceed to destroy the siege weapons and the colonies (so I don't just build replacements). And all that with already an severely disrupted economy in his home system and my fleets at his front door. In other words: He has already lost thanks to the siege weapons. :CONGRAT:

Personally, I find their un-counterable nature... highly annoying. I wish the devs had thought more in a "SupCom" style than a "C&C" style.

Well, the only counter against a siege weapon spam is never to let an opponent get enough resources and tactical slots to build them. Keep up the pressure. Though I have to admit that this can be difficult and sometimes impossible especially in large Multiplayer games.
