Multiplayer Disconnect Issues

Hey! First let me say that Sins is one of the greatest strategy games I've ever played, and my natural desire to obsess is building a deep and strong relationship with this game. However, I've been having issues lately in multiplayer with disconnecting, usually about five hours into an eight player game when I'm dominating everyone (Imagine my pain, #1 in military, empire, and economy in an eight player match, and then poof, connection gone). As far as I've been able to tell, there are two distinct connection problems I've been having.

1. Modem Crash - I run a Speedstream 5100 modem (commonly known for having issues if they run Double NAT and too many connections are pushed through) that will randomly lose connectivity at random points in the game. The game will register myself as migrating in the Network tab and all other players as disconnected.

2. Random Disconnects - Occasionally in multiplayer game my internet will be working fine (with myself keeping a watchful eye on the modem) and the connection will suddenly just falter. I don't really have any ideas on this one.

I'd appreciate any help that can be given. Thanks a bunch for this awesome game!

P.S. I just had to ask this question somewhere, but why does the noise that the TEC Gauss Platforms make when you click on them sound so much like the Terran Bunker from Starcraft? I have to repeatedly click on them just to hear that sound.

Came up with a theory for this problem. I don't have the port open on my router that I should, how does the game pick a new host when the original one leaves? It might be likely that when it migrates to a host whose router is not set up for it, that it disconnects the host. This seem feasible?

Of course. If the game tries to migrate to an "unsuitable host" (one who doesn't have the proper ports opened and forwarded) then it will keep trying the various clients until it runs out of options and crashes.

I am having the same problems...frustrating :-/. Mostly it is the same as mentioned above, I am "Migrating" and everybody else is "Disconnected".
So, if i understand this correctly, this can happen if the host quits and nobody else is a suitable host? That said, if I am able to host a game, this error should not happen as long as I am in a game, because the host-function can migrate to my computer?!

Unfortunately, I am unable to host a game, despite correct port forwarding. I had similar problems with SupCom (thats why I quit playing this game). There, after I while, I figured that the problem was not incorrect port-forwarding but my router using "symmetric NAT". Could this be the source of problems in Sins too? Im sorry if this is a completely silly question, I am only a geologist and therefore have absolutely no clue of computer networks :-).

Thanks for any hints!

That is correct. That is why I've posted all that NAT information in the sticky. Contact me for more information, you may be able to change the NAT-ing your router does and do away with your hosting woes.  :)

Thank you for your offer!! But I have played around with this for hours while trying to get SupCom running. I also wrote to the manufacturer, and it seems it cannot be changed, not even with the newest firmware. At this point I gave up. SupCom was not to great anyway (Performance...).

But I shall not let a simple :-/ router stand between me and Sins, I will get a new one later today..

Yeah, when this happens does it mean that the host left, or does it mean that you disconnected?

I have this problem too, and really grinding my gears. I don't think I have even completed a game online yet. I would either get that dump error or get disconnected from Ironclad, and thats what it tells me on my screen. My D-Link gaming router is configured correctly, and I host most of my games. This just happened to me today when I hosted a game. I thought it was interesting that when this happened it was exactly 3 hours into the game. What gives Ironclad?
