This will happen in any game with a patch.Only way around it would be to uninstall sins and keep your saved games (but i doubt your that attached to them)

v1.01 is the initial release. Are your save games from the beta? If so, there have been significant changes that would likely make the beta version save games invalid (new race, changes to the AI, etc...).

previous saves do not work with new patches. so i am guessing 1.01 games won't work with the new patch 1.02 when it comes out

A WARNING FROM THE WEB PAGE BEFORE DOWNLOAD MIGHT HAVE BEEN NICE!!!!!

16 HOUR investment on the edge of a knife blown away in a patch is KINDA ANNOYING. ;)

***goes away ranting*** to self.

Yeah, 1.02 isn't out so the only invalidation would be from Gamma to release.

It's possible he got the box, played, and just now updated to 1.01..

I'm going to guess he's a boxed customer that just got his box.

Sorry your save games got lost :(

1.02 is out? If so, the change log was posted by Frogboy a few days back.

My boxed version is at home waiting to be opened!!!!!!!

Good news is, I asked Yarlen and he says replays go out, but 1.01 to 1.02 keeps save game compatability -- won't save your 1.0 games, though.

Mine might be too, then! *squeals*

Now to get home.. god, working until 5 on Fridays sucks. My usual time is 3:30 :P

YEAH I GOT THE BOX.

Looks like Star Dock Dropped the bomb on this one. A Big fat warning would have been nice.

SO BE WARNED BOX (1.0) people your game/games ARE finished unless you don't update.

A STICKY WOULD BE A VERY GOOD IDEA

Disabling your caps lock would be a better one. No need for a sticky. You should always assume a patch will break your save games.

If you played before installing the release patch, then the simplest answer would be to just reinstall and finish your game, then patch up. Since the patch was already up at release though, most people get it first thing.

That's usually the way it goes...?

Honestly, every patch for every game I've seen almost always either doesn't apply to save games, or just invalidates them.

Why would you patch if you're going to play a save game that still operates under pre-patch rules?
Why not uninstall/reinstall...or if you happened to archive the specific version via SDC...

I would expect, more often than not, that updates will break save games. Any update over version 1.00 will break your save games. Save games between v1.01 to 1.02 should be safe, but replays will not be. We'll try to be better with informing folks about this stuff.  (:(

Not really an issue, but in most of the recent pc games I've played, updates have been compatible with previous saves. Again, not a big issue (well to some).

I just got the game in the mail yesterday, the internet was down (cable company) and so I played the whole afternoon, having a great time. Today, internet back up and I D/L the update, apply the patch and WHAMO! My saved game (hours and hours) isn't compatible? That's complete BS. Someone needs write an import feature with the patch/update. To not do so is simple laziness on the part of Stardock. No excuse and although I love this new game, I'm really P'oed right now.

Is there simply a conversion program or patch that will let me pull in my old games??

Roger, as has been pointed out already, version changes frequently do break save games. It sucks, but there's good reason for it. As far as an "import" feature... there are bigger and better things for them to do than to create an "import" feature for a version most people haven't played, and won't ever play.

Um, thanks for the reply, but I just bought the darned game from Gamestop and had it shipped to me in the mail. I'm playing the retail, off the CD game. Is it too much to expect for my $50 to be able to play the saved games from yesterday on my store-bought copy for a game that is officially released only a couple weeks ago?

So I beg to differ, and they simply shouldn't have broken the saves. And hey, a simple warning during the install of the patch stating that the saves woudln't be accessable would have sufficed - I could have aborted then and there. I stick to my guns that it was poor implementation of the patch and things like this are indeed important to paying customers like me.

There I'm done, I've said my piece... guess I'll go deinstall this dam thing and play my saved game that way. This isn't BETA anymore - and Stardock isn't EA. So I expect better...
