Try dropping your texture detail, exiting the game and reloading. Your system may not be able to load the hi-rez textures fast enough which is registering as "lag".

i droped everything down to zero but my ping still jumps up from around 70 to 1000 every few seconds and it says lagging by my name in the networking menu after a few minutes i get disconnected from the game completely

Are you using wireless by any chance?

got the same problem..
either the game starts and ends without any lag problems or, in most of the cases i start lagging from the start with ping jumping from 100 to 20000..
i don't have any download managers in the background and other multiplayer games work absolutely fine

I have the same problem, even when i host also, except there is just high latency between me and whoever is in my hosted game. not on a wireless either and i have fairly quick internet. But i havnt even managed to play one game without lag, Help Stardock!

Where are you located related to the people you're trying to play with? That can make a significant impact in a P2P network game such as this.

Well its about the same no matter who i play with, im guessing most of them was down in the US, but my friend lives about 10 minutes from my house. And in other games our latency rarely exceeds 80.

ok it seems that ive found a solution. My computer was just overrun with addware/spyware and i got a decent addware/spyware removal program and now it works like a charm. i had around 200 infections lol soo yeah, i hope that helps you guys also! :D

nah..i keep my system tidy, i did a spybot sweep today, it only found some lame cookies..no trojans or crap like that.

still the same laggy business in sins.

@ kryo, i live in israel and got a 1500/500 cable connection, while its pretty distant from the rest of the gaming world i get relatively low pings (100-150) to most of europe.
i understand i might get higher pings to u.s players but i don't understand those fluctuations..crazy pings that jump from 150 to 20000 in almost every game.

the 2 games that did work fine for me i actually had pretty high pings about 300-400 but without any lag at all during those ~3 hours and no complaints..

Ok Guys, What i thought solved it actually did not, it was probally unrelated and was timed just as the game worked for a while, i have no adware/spyware and its not working still so if anyone find a solution id be happy to hear it. :P

I've been having the same issue. Every other multiplayer game I play, I get great pings. However I lag every multiplayer game I join of Sins.

Which adware software did you use?

While I have no acticle to draw from, It seems every game i've played in the last 5 years their forums have had reports of people using cable internet for gaming, and they were having this same issue, so i've been believeing that it is cable internet thats the issue. Even my friend down the road who had cable internet pestered his dad enough to switch to DSL because of this issue, and he has hadn't had it since. And where I live the biggest cable internet provider has had articles in the newspaper, saying they severly hamper P2P connection. (Wriiten by some guy who was talking about internet conections, not by the company in question of course)

I'm not sure if this is true and I personlly have never used cable internet, (Because I had heard about these issues before, and even the sales people where we got our internet told us about this) I do believe this.

But as I said I have no acticle, and this is based off of what I have seen and heard.

I Used Spyware Doctor, but it didnt work as i said, it was just coincidental that it was scanning and fixing stuff the same time that sins decided to work for me. The whole thing about internet companies "hampering" p2p connections probally isnt the reason for encountering the amount of lag that were getting, like weve all said, all other programs/applications work flawlessly, it is just sins that isnt working, i very much doubt that its just our isp providers, maybe it could be something encountered with useing vista and having the same environment (programs installed, background programs, ect.) but the chances of it being the game itself is also very low because of the whole extensive betas and such, so if anyone has any ideas, help plz.

i also think it's some rare incompatibility.
wonder what specs and windows version other affected players are using..
i've got:
core2duo 6400 processor, asus p5b MB, 2 GB of ram, leadtek's 7900GT. vista 64 ultimate.

I Think i get the same thing. I dont play online, but i get this issue.
My rig can play Crysis on Very High at 1047 res, so its not my babe.
I can load a game, where theres ALOT of ships around. After about 30 mins of play i begin to lag horribly.
Now in the middle of a HUGE laggy battle, if i save and exit the game, then come back to the same point its not laggy at all, and looks amazing.
There must be some sort of memory chock point in the code or something.
Very strange.

I use cable internet without this issue, so I'm not sure its cable thats at fault. Or if so, its not consistent.

Lknight, i believe most of us are getting online network related lag and during offline games it seems clear, you should look in a diff thread cause im doubtful you'll find an answer here, sry.
