Menu text invisible [with steam]

when launching through Steam

When I run the game through Valve's Steam, it very reliably does not have any text on the main menu or Options menu. I haven't delved into it at all to see if there are any other issues, but that was upsetting.

I suspect this won't be supported, but I do like Steam and wouldn't mind being able to use its features in this game.

It has been reported before, and Steam is indeed not supported.

That really is too bad. We're not looking for Steam support, we're just looking for Sins to work with the Steam Overlay enabled, since it's a great concept which works in most games, and I prefer to launch all of my games through Steam's interface.

As it seems you are in the mode of listening to your users and considering future patches, I would highly suggest and request that you guys look into the issue. That way all the people who wanted to get Sins on Steam could at least still access their Steam community features through the overlay.

The game is so nearly perfectly executed already, but it could be even closer if it weren't for this hindrance.

Can I just chime in and add my request for this fix? It's probably a minor issue; Sins is the only game I've played that's had menu corruption issue when launched via Steam. As the OP described, the menu text is simply invisible.

What is the point with launching Sins with steam? Isnt it easier to simply click the shortcut rather than open a program that will let you open Sins? Seems a bit counterintuitive to me.

A lot of us constantly have steam open. It's sort of like our Games folder, so we don't have the icon to keep everything on our desktop. I have to agree that, if this is a minor fix and not too time-consuming, it would be nice if taken care of.

When you launch a game through the Steam launcher, Steam latches onto the game and adds an overlay layer. Basically, it lets you bring up your Friends List, IM windows, etc., on top of the game. This is really convenient, faster than using Alt+Tab to leave the program, and is very helpful for setting up (for example) voice chat sessions with your friends - whether or not they are playing the same game as you! Also, other Steam users can see when you launch a game game immediately via a little popup. My friends and I use this to quickly join each other in games like Defcon, World of Warcraft, Team Fortress 2, and whatever other game we happen to be playing this week.

So, while it is slightly easier to launch via a normal shortcut (though if you have Steam open all the time, as Harmatia and I do, it isn't harder), launching from outside of Steam means you lose all these totally sweet community features.

You do realize that Steam is a direct competitor for Stardock's services. I don't really see Ironclad or Stardock giving money to their competitor (but I could be wrong).

You're not wrong. We won't be supporting Steam at all.

I dont know why but i find this thread funny. Why dont ya ask valve/steam to make an interface for the game? Its not SOASE that has the problem, it wasnt built/coded to have an steam overlay. Hello? Its kinda like a ford guy asking for mustang parts at a chevy dealership, not gonna happen. Actually thats a bad example, you can order parts, they just cost 4 times as much. *shrugs sorry for the thread derail*.

Damn, was hoping to come on here, hearing that you patched the issue (playing the demo now). But since Steam is just providing (most of us atleast) the ability to IM our friends, I don't see what the problem is.

The issue is actually on Steam's side, it's been explained in more detail in another long lost thread.

I just picked up the game and I have to say I'm very impressed. The whole title is absolutely excellent. Clean and polished.

Of course when I tried to run it in steam I had the same problem everyone else had. I'm glad to see the developers recognize the problem. Now while I'm no business major, I don't believe that telling your customer to essentially "Stop bitching and buy our stuff instead" is the best business practice. But at least the company seems to be united under the flag of "We don't care what our customers want". Bright future guys, bright future.
