No Graphics?

Anyone else have this problem?

I have Windows XP, an older graphics card, GeForce4, and I installed the newest drivers before installing the game, however after installing the game and playing it I found that I have no graphics show up in game when I zoom in on my fleets. Everyhing else is fine, I can play the game fine there is no crashing or anything like that, everything else moves and looks great, however I can only see the icons of ships and structures from a distance and when I try to zoom in there is nothing? Am I doing something stupid, or is this a computer issue here?

I don't even begin to know where to start. Is the rest of your computer as ancient as the graphics card?

Wow, Geforce 4? I think that is what, 8 years old? Ouch.

Basically you don't meet the minimum requirements so good luck is about all I can say. I'm surprised it runs at all to be frank.

Good luck!

Well it's not that old it's from 2002 but it's a DirectX 7 or 8.1 Card so it wont work with games that need DirectX 9. Then again I'm no expert on GPUs so I could be wrong.

You can get a good enough 8 series Geforce (8600 GT) for around $100. However, you will need to have a PCI-Express motherboard which i'm sure yours is not with a Geforce 4 card! That card is way below the minimum requirements for the game so you will have to upgrade to play.

Geforce 4 (especially if it's an MX, which by the issue you have, it probably is) is not supported. As noted by others, the game requires a DX9 video card.

lol thats pretty neat though. The game wont work with that graphics card, so the game just turns the graphics off=P Lets you still play with just the icons.

Im going to try and install this game on my microwave...

welp, I found my answer to why I'm not seeing any graphics.

I guess it's either buy a new vid card or return the game. Funny how a $45 game turns into a $145+ game so quickly. It's little wonder why folks are migrating to consoles...

Now that's just unfair.

Sins works great with old hardware, unlike a lot of older games. But you just can't expect it to work with hardware that old. ;)

Yeah... DirectX 9 is now what, six years old (Radeon 9k series came out with DX9 support in 2002)? I don't think it's too much to ask that people have a video card at least that new in order to play.

FWIW, the Geforce4 MX cards may have been released in 2002, but they were just updated versions of the Geforce2 cards from two years prior. They're actually inferior to the Geforce3 in every way that matters. They found pretty widespread use though as they were cheap and commonly sold in Walmart, Best Buy, etc as "upgrades".

Consoles cost a LOT more to upgrade; mainly because you have to get a whole new console instead of new parts. For example: I upgraded my ~$200 Xbox to a ~$700 360, with graphics being the seemingly only real difference. I upgraded my ~$150 graphics card to a ~$350 card and got the same jump in quality as I got with my XboX to 360.

Consoles = more expensive (including all practical PC upgrade prices vs console "upgrades"). Just PC's seem more expensive as their "top quality" new stuff is overpriced for the first 12 months (and often not utilized effectively until after the next gen is out; see quad core).
