Game will not load after installed

I installed the game but when I try and start it up the screen turns black like it's loading but then nothing happens. When I access task manager the game closes and a message pops up and says Sins of a Solar Empire has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. I'm running windows XP but my sound doesn't work on this computer. I read that the game will crash with vista if speakers or headphones are not plugged in, could I be having the same problem?

Yes, the game requires a functional soundcard to play at the moment. You don't even have onboard sound?

I thought that was the problem. Thanks for the info. I'm working on getting my sound card working. YOu say it requires a working sound card at the moment, is there a possibility that that could change in the near future?
