Frustrating Game

What a terribly frustrating game. I have played for over 10 hours now, replaying a 1v1 from various save points. Each time it ends up in a huge fleet engagement where the ai and I bring in pretty even fleets and it (AI) ends up mopping up the gravity well with me. i have researched pretty much every facet of combat, including the long range cannon that i keep lobbing at his few remaining planets. and i have a balanced fleet, with a few level 9 cap ships and a few level 6 or so and every support role well represented. Anyway, in fleet engagements my shots do little damage, and his seem to do double. my shields don't recharge and his rarely go down. I lose all my capital ships and he doesn't even lose many frigates. i have his economy in such a bind, and mine is so strong, that i even have tried to just focus on single ships, figuring that I am in a good position to rebuild. but quite simply they will not go down. i know about shield mitigation, but this is quite simply BS. what am i doing wrong here?

i have everything set to auto attack, because i have about 150 ships and i can manually do that.
i have tried both auto ability and manual ability and neither work.
i like this game (it reminds me of conquest: frontier wars), but I feel like the ai is cheating.

What level are you playing on? What ships are you using? Fleet size is less important than composition.

dude, if anything the computers are too easy

mmm... Do you have enough support frigates? Have you a balanced set of upgraded capitol ships. An overall balanced fleet with ships that provide bonuses for armor, shields and weaponry?

Hope it helps :)

Try playing a 2v2 with locked teams so you have a permanent ally. That helped me immensely since I was able to watch the AI and get some idea on what I should be doing, plus you can call for help if you ever get into trouble. It took two or three games, but I got the hang of it. I just finished my first solo against two easy AI and won pretty handily.

my fleet is:
kol*2
marza*1
akkan*1
Dunov*2
kodiak*23
perchereon (sp) *23
cielo*20
garda*25
hashiko*25
cobalt*21
javelis*25.

not interested in planetary bombardment, so no siege frigates in this fleet.
so what am i doing wrong? this fleet should be able to at least take a few ships down with it.

playing on normal ai.

what does the a.i have? (include enemy structures, if its the a.i planet).

Maybe your fighting the Advent in it's own territory. Their shield mitigation would be so high at this point that their shields barely ever get scratched, and they may be using their special abilities to make your ships take damage from your own attacks whilst transferring, diluting and negating whatever damage you can do to them using their many various abilities. Knock out their antimatter(with stuff like Cobalt Sabotage Reactor) to disable those special abilities, and then see what happens.

Yeah... the Advent has some pretty frightning abilites. I found myself running away on a 1v1 fight where I had a level 7 Vasari Destroyer vs the main battleship of the advent.

I had all the fire power was at a higher level and that ships ability stopping weapon that also gives you damage every second just ruined me. I ran ofcourse... but I got it in the end hehe... yeah baby that was satisfying.

actually i am fighting the TEC, in my territory. in which i have a couple of guass cannons and a hanger bay to boot.

the ai fleet composition is similar, but its capital ships are on average on or two levels lower than mine.

There must be an explanation. Do you have your military upgrades? Or did you focus only on economy? If his fleet is fully upgraded and yours is not that would explain the one sided fight.

He said he has a Novalith Cannon, which makes me wonder since a Novalith should be making the AI beg for mercy resource-wise. And that he's pretty far up the Military tree.

What map are you playing on?

This is weird, I never experienced this. My fleets usually wipe the floor with the enemy's.

Try manually focusing your big guns on his big guns and take them out first as fast as possible. Then have a supply cap ship repair or buff your main cap Kols, and wipe up the frigates. This should work, guaranteed, unless the AI has some cards up its sleeve that you didn't notice, like extra support ships or something. In that case - cause as much damage as you can, and run away, preferably to a colony that has multiple repair stations and dive back in. Granted, you will lose your colony that way, but at least the enemy will eventually run away and won't move in to finish you up.

I've occasionally ran into trouble fighting against normal AI ships who used the repair ships to support its fleets, they just wore me down with attrition and I couldn't hit him harder than he could heal. I tried focus firing on the hoshiko's, but the AI would just warp more in. In the end I had to retreat with heavy damage.

Also remember that your entire fleet is filled with an overwhelming hatred of siege frigates. If it sees them, then no matter how much damage it will take flying over to attack it will do so, and by darned if it wont divide up its fire in the silliest possible way once it arrives. Watch for ships moving in a big engagement. A moving frigate is almost always not firing, give it a closer target. Also watch your capitol ships, you want them engaging at maximum range, with engineering ships nearby set to hold position near them.

I was playing against normal ai in my last game, and I defeated the enemy fleet which was bigger than my own fleet. I didn't even have any support units(except one cap ship). What I did was make a frigate factory near the battle, and set a rally point to the place we were fighting. So I was gaining units while I was losing them.

While that may indeed work, it hardly what one would call a viable strategy unless you are sitting on a couple hundred thousand credits and resources.

to me looks like he has too many support ships. Pretty much double every combat ship, and half every support ship.
Well marza is rather weak on fleet vs fleet fights, imho. Another dunov, kol or the carrier then replace some of the support cruisers to damage dealing ones. If your enemy was having enough of anti-support ships that would explain why it didnt work out too well.

Too many frigates can also hurt more than its worth, if you can use cruisers dont use alot of frigates.

More Caps.
I dont know what the problem fighting the AI...
Its harder than in the beta but its still winable.

This is exactly what is happening. Every single ship in his damn fleet has that little bright light aura shining around it. like it is getting some sort of buff.

and yes, I have pretty much every military tech maxed out ( i do not have the max planetary bombard one). and yes, I have hit all his worlds with the cannon at least once, and raided them as well. none of his worlds are unraided at this point, and all have been under my control at least once.

occasionally he will break off pieces of his fleet to try and capture back planets, to which i respond with a piece of my fleet, only to have him warp away, (despite all the pji's I have installed-what's the point?). invariably it comes to a point where our main fleets meet and then i take heavy losses and he takes none. is there some invulnerability tech that the tec has? i have 2 points in the best armor one, but that doesn't stop his shots from going through my hull like butter.
