Not sure if there's much that can be done about this, but if you launch the game (Using the Launcher or the game executable itself) from within Steam, there is no text in the game. I have not had this issue with other games. I suppose it's not too important since it's not a Steam game, but I do like to have the Steam community overlay my games, steam or not.
Secondly, and I'll post a screenshot, last night I was in a 2v2 game with a friend vs. 2 computers. We took one computer player out, but then spent hours - literally hours - attempting to mop up the 2nd one, and he would not surrender. He was literally drifting from planet to planet, holding on with a small fleet. I think the main reason he was still alive was that he had a colony ship hiding somewhere, because he kept colonizing planets, and we'd find them pretty fast and take them out, but... well, here's the screen shot.

It came down to the point where we were even building enough scouts to sit one at every planet. However, it was 2am at that point, and we needed sleep.
Oh, also, the computer we had killed had a fleet leftover at his last planet for a while after he'd left the game... and that fleet still kept attacking us. I eventually went and took it out because I was tired of chasing the orange computer all over the system.
In any case, I am reminded of the old problems with Warcraft II where the computer could have, like, a peasant left, and you couldn't win until that peasant was dead.
