Steam launch bug + AI issues

Not sure if there's much that can be done about this, but if you launch the game (Using the Launcher or the game executable itself) from within Steam, there is no text in the game. I have not had this issue with other games. I suppose it's not too important since it's not a Steam game, but I do like to have the Steam community overlay my games, steam or not.

Secondly, and I'll post a screenshot, last night I was in a 2v2 game with a friend vs. 2 computers. We took one computer player out, but then spent hours - literally hours - attempting to mop up the 2nd one, and he would not surrender. He was literally drifting from planet to planet, holding on with a small fleet. I think the main reason he was still alive was that he had a colony ship hiding somewhere, because he kept colonizing planets, and we'd find them pretty fast and take them out, but... well, here's the screen shot.

It came down to the point where we were even building enough scouts to sit one at every planet. However, it was 2am at that point, and we needed sleep.

Oh, also, the computer we had killed had a fleet leftover at his last planet for a while after he'd left the game... and that fleet still kept attacking us. I eventually went and took it out because I was tired of chasing the orange computer all over the system.

In any case, I am reminded of the old problems with Warcraft II where the computer could have, like, a peasant left, and you couldn't win until that peasant was dead.

Not all issues here are steam related.

I hope to see you address the gameplay issues I pointed out rather than writing this off as a message only about Steam issues simply based on the subject line.

Thank you.

I really dont see a problem here...

What ever problem you have with steam and while running Sins is not up to stardock and ironclad. Best option is to shut it down :p

The AI continuing to colonize? Why not split up your fleets and take out lessor defended worlds ;)

It's a Steam issue alright. tested it myself get the same problem.

It's because of the ingame community chat progam. Disable it in steam under FILE -> Setting, go to the "In Game" tab and deselect Steam ingame community chat. And it should be sorted.

Remember that it is always best to make sure that non stem related games running from your steam account does not use steam services. They were not developed for it.

The solution to that problem is to colonize the planets yourself. He can't colonize them if you already own them. You don't even have to bother upgrading them, since you are in "mop up" mode.

Actually it was. You already identified the problem with the second issue, the guy kept colonizing and you couldn't keep up.

Does the AI surrender at all? I think under certain circumstances it would be better if they did...

The AIs don't surrender. It's something that has been discussed internally, though. Otherwise, just colonize planets as you conquer them and the AI won't be able to keep recolonizing as you destroy his planets (certainly a human player would be taking neutral planets you left unguarded).

Human players would probably realize that they have no chance and quit unless they just wanted to be annoying. But the fix is to colonize those planets because he wont attack them, he just sends a colony ship in by itself and takes them.

The game really needs something like in Rise of Nations, where if you control a certain percentage of the territory (usually 70% or above), it starts a "victory timer" that will end the game in X minutes. I agree that it's smart of the computer to keep running and grabbing planets, but while extermination of a species sounds cool, its implementation is quite annoying :)
