Eve Mod

Eve online mod?

Just wondering does any one here play Eve Online or heard of it? Its a great space based MMO but just wondering any one thinking of some how taking models from that and putting it in Sins. If some one could help/teach me how to do this it would be great. Anyways look up Eve because it has a lot of the same feeling as Sins but its a MMO.

i used to play it but i got bored :d 1st you would have to talk to ccp about it if you were going to pull their models out a mod for homeworld was alowed to do that i think but under very strict conditions (one being it cant be released in any form till they had looked at it and where satisfied) otherwise eve would make a great mod it has plenty of ships ,tho not to many, there are ideas for structures and there is a base of refrence for what they could be like against each other. if i wasent busy with my bfg mod i would help but sadly mine comes first in this situation  (:(

It's funny you should mention this, because as an avid EVE player, the first thing I thought of when playing Sins was "Wow, it's like EVE became an RTS". You would definitely need CCP's permission to use their art though. Not to mention you would probably need some game mechanic changes (for instance, in EVE, you don't conquer planets, you conquer systems using control towers and then take stations).

Heh, Heh, Heh.... To convince more people to play I mentioned the fact that the game was like EVE as an RTS.

The advent mothership looks a bit like the Myrmidon. :P

It could be done without mechanics changes. Eve is one of the games I was thinking about when watching this game come to launch. When you think epic space battles in real time, Eve has to come to mind if you've ever played it. :D

Haha, the very first thing I thought when I saw that Advent ship was "OMG a Myrm!".
The second thing I thought was "This game could be awesome with an EVE mod".

It even has many of the same things: A fair number of spaceships, enough to add frigs, cruisers, BCs, BS and capships (although perhaps only 1 or 2 of the models), several playable races, and while EVE has 4 vs Sins' 3, you can make the rebels Minmatar since they only fly spacejunk anyway and actually ARE rebels (bwahaha ;) ), a mysterious race that is kicking another race's butt (Jove in EVE - Could be added in an expansion to Sins if they introduce the race) as well as you can convert the research outposts to the space station models in EVE. Likewise, different hauler ships in EVE could be used as refinery ships and trade ships in Sins and you could even restrict phase lanes to stargates if you wish to go that far into the EVE universe (The Vasari phase thingy between two distant planets could probably be modded for this).

Yes, I have thought about this entirely too much but merging my two fave space games would be incredible beyond belief :D

How do we simulate node crashes?

If you really wanted to make it like Eve, you'd have to make the game lock up any time there were a hundred ships in one system.

Well I still think its a great idea and if i knew the first thing about modding i would try it myself. Can any one tell me a good place to start I might try this my self

Actually, there's a mod like this going on (or at least it was for a while) for Homeworld. I would love to see it, because while I like the Eve universe and the ships, the game has always been a little too slow paced for me to stick with.

The homeworld2 mod was not allowed to pull the models and art out of the eve client,
they have been making them on there own, all they got from ccp was permission to make the mod.

It's called "fair use".

I played EVE but was dissapointed in the combat, I loved the depth of tech and equipment tho. it would be cool to see it relived in this platform

I played for about 3 years before i got tired of it. Did the big Corp, then Alliance thing (ASCN during the G, and IRON wars), but got tired of paying 15 bucks a month only to do what others told me to do. So i turned to Piracy. I quit after that got too old. A few pir8's vs big ass alliance's didnt go very well, and empire war deccing wasnt enough of a challenge to bother with. Most would just stay docked, and smacked you from the safety of the stations (even if i was in a crow solo). We did get some ransom :SURPRISED: but it just got old.

My weapons of choice were in order of skills to fly, Caracal ("suicide caracal" preferably :D ), Crow, Drake, Cerberus, Harbinger (only non caldari ship i felt was worth a damn).

CCP did that with the homeworld 2 mod to make sure the mod doesnt "suck". AFAIK they have no issue as long as profit is not being made off of it.

Ripping models is not fair use. Please read up on what fair use actually is.

Taking the models straight out of eve, if thats what your talking about, will not happen.

First off, the models are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high poly to be in an RTS like sins.

2nd, kinda illegal to just take CCP's art and slap it into another game and call it your own mod.

3rd, you would need their permission to begin with to do that with their artwork.

4th, afaik the models format cant be accessed at the moment.

Actually there is now a way to extract the trinity high res models. It can be done granted you have the go ahead from ccp.

actuly the homeworld mod IS using the ccp models go look on their forums im dan sure the leader dude says at one point that they are, but they are using the old pre-trinity models.

CCP gave Zatch permission to use models straight from the eve client for the Homeworld 2 mod (check it on the relic forums). However CCP wants to look at the mod before it is released. They want it to be quality. For free use of CCP material, and IP i think that is a very fair request.

However i doubt they will extend the same courtesy for multiple mods. Doesnt hurt to ask them. If they say no you may need to model the ships yourself so be prepared.

Good luck with the mod.

*caution negative perspective ahead, avoid it if you get upset easily*

Ya know this is all nice and such but i believe it will never ever happen. How long has homeworld 2 been out? How long will people wait for that mod? answer: no clue maybe..3 more years?

I gave the *censord* up on all of that mod team and CCP's free use idea. IF its ever done it will be great, if it works, by the time they get the darn thing done and "approved" our hardware/OS will not understand how to run the core game code anymore.

I mean look at the screenshots from the site they have, allmost done. Ccp say go ahead..nope, not yet. I doubt they ever do.

im not telling you to stop, or to give up. Just trying to make sure you understand that CCP is NOT really that interested in anyone modding a game from someone else with their models. No i dont have facts, no i dont have insider info, but the time its taking them is enough of a clue for me.

An EVE mod would be fantastic, great setting for it, but would require an extensive amount of work. And as previously stated, the Homeworld 2 EVE mod has been in the works for far too long, most people who are even interested in an EVE rts are probably tied up waiting for that one. So attracting some modellers/skinners to make this might be more difficult.

Still, if anybody here is serious enough to try to tackle this project, I'd love to be a part of it. I have some pretty extensive modding experience in other games :)
