No sound at all

I installed the game from the disk and quickly realized I had no sound what-so-ever. I was like whatever and decided I would start up some music and play the game without in-game sound. I started up iTunes and started playing an mp3 and then loaded up the game and all sound cut out. As soon as I quit the game, the song kept playing like everything was fine.

I'm not sure what's happening, but whenever I load the game up, it's cutting out all audio. Has anyone had this problem before or have any ideas on what I can do to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

How recent are your audio drivers? Could also be a codec issue. Can you play the sounds and music files directly from the game's directory?

I'm having the same problem. I've reinstalled my sound card drivers. (Soundblaster Audigy 2)

I've reinstalled all the codecs I've had, I've installed the giant codec packs to see if I was just missing one. The movies (.bik) and other sound files play fine if I open them in any other program. I've tried running it in a window, uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting settings files, all of it.

Update:

I've reinstalled DirectX, as well as the game. Still no luck.

Update 2:

Okay, so I ran dxdiag, no luck. Reinstalled video drivers, no luck. But I noticed that if I turned sound up really loud on my music as I started sins, it would fade out over about a second when the program started like the sound was being turned down. After alt tabbing out (and unchecking turn off sound when window loses focus) I found that NO sound would play, not even windows sounds. So I checked volume settings...nothing.

So I finally decided to go through the complicated process of turning on, installing drivers, and switching to my motherboard's onboard sound. It worked.

So it seems the problem lies with the Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS soundcard, or the creative drivers for it, which happen to be ver 02.09.0016 and those were last updated OCT 2006. So maybe it's on creative's end. Hopefully you guys can release some sort of hotfix for the users that don't have onboard sound like I do. And I'd also like to enjoy the upgraded sound quality that I get from a dedicated card.

I have that card too and I had no sound at all at first, other than the intro vid which was fine, till i alt tabbed and went back;it was in windowed mode, not sure if that was what fixed it. I was just checking forums and went back to the game and suddenly it had sound. *shrug*

Ok , this works for me.

Wins XP x64:

Go to your Sound and Audio Device Properties in your control panel then to the Audio tab and go to the advanced Sound playback and on the Performance tab set Hardware acceleration to standard.

Not sure if this works for Vista and XP 32-bit as well.

For me the way I fixed this was by unchecking the option under the sound menu. I think it was something like stop sound if windows looses focus or some wheres around that ballpark. I just unchecked that and had sound?! I also have the Audigy Z2.

I had the same problem and the same sound card. By turning down the acceleration it fixed it.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I had the same problem and same sound card as everyone else. Monfar's solution worked fine for me. Thank you Monfar!

I still have no sound. It is not a driver issue as my Emu 1820m sound card works just fine with every other computer game that I own - and I have some recent titles as well (Company of Heroes - Opposing Fronts and Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance). I also updated my sound card drivers just in case. Still no sound in game. The intro movie sound plays fine. I've tried changing the settings, etc. etc. as suggested here with no luck. This is quite frustrating and I hope they have a patch for this soon!

This fix also worked for me--turning down the acceleration one notch.
