Great Game - but Where's the AI?

What is your opinion of the AI?

I'm baffled by a recent Gamespy review of Sins that called the AI "very good". In my experience, the AI is passive, doesn't defend its territory, and doesn't adequately defend its home world. In four games, I've only been attacked in force three times. In two of the attacks, the attacking force retreated almost as soon as it entered the gravity well. In the third attack, the attacking force was decimated by platforms and bombers. I didn't even bother sending a fleet to help.

Try play large map with hard A.I, it's lot better then small map with easy A.I or so I has been played and told.

My last game I got hammered by a large Advent fleet for one of my asteroids. They kept feinting around and came in hard for it and did NOT retreat when I counter-attacked. AI was set as "Normal".

I have not had any easy games so far. Maybe my tactics stink....shrug.

Well if your enemies defenses were so massive that commiting to an attack was going to be a suicide mission, you'd probably run too.....

I'm currently fighting for my life against excellently timed hard AI attacks because they carved my empire into two, and the missions they give would kill me if i tried. I've been playing forever, so it's nice to have this challenge, even if it's starting to look like I dropped the soap :NOTSURE:. If it weren't for the fact that both halves of my empire are essential and major aggravations to an ai, i'd probably be doing well, because there is quite a bit of infighting going on. Try the harder levels on larger maps, and you'll change your tune.

I'll vouch that the AI is better on a larger map. My belief is that the AI has an easier time because it's harder to find strategic choke holds on the larger maps. I'm just an hour or so into my new game (medium map, three teams, four players) and the two members of team #2 attacked me simultaneously. One attack was an effective counter-attack, while the other attack was an ineffective assault (but still, it got my attention).

I've changed my position to "the AI sucks!" to "I will wait and see".

Your AI personality may have been set to defensive, or random - which ended up being defensive.
