Huge Random enemy placement is infuriating.

Half the reason I wanted a huge-random was to give myself some breathing space, and allow my empire to get, maybe, 1/3rd the way up the tech trees and have a modest fleet before I engage the enemies, and then partake in large, sweeping battles across the galaxy.

With 10 players, and 5 stars, it's extremely logical to assume that on average there's going to be 2 enemies per star.

Imagine my surprise when not one, not, two, but FOUR retries of this scenario has given me 4 or more enemies in my starting star system.

This basically means that I have to fight FOUR OR FIVE enemies just to get out of my starting system, whereas we can assume the AIs are simply colonizing all over the other stars like mad, as I'm sure at least one has started all by themselves.

If I wanted to play with 5 enemies within 4 jumps away from my home planet, I'd play on a small galaxy.

The curious thing is that on the 'map editor', if you dump 10 enemies on a 5 star system, it puts two enemies on each star (or 1 on each star in a 10-star system). Therefore I have reason to believe the 'Huge Random' was designed to completely piss players off and put them at a ridiculous disadvantage.

It's only somewhat random. The map always has the same basic layout: One star with 5 players, another star with 5 players, and 3 unoccupied stars. I was expecting something a bit more random, but oh well.

Anyways, you can use the in-game map editor to make a more desirable map. It's pretty easy to use.

Ironclad developer #1: Dude, check this out. I adjusted the placement code so that it totally just RAPES real players as soon as they get into the huge random map. Haha, what chumps.

Ironclad developer #2: Genius. I can't believe everybody loves us for conning them into buying a 50$ product that we actually designed to make them miserable. Hey, want to go roll around in the huge piles of money we, the bourgeoisie, are exploiting from the proletariat?

Ironclad developer #1: As if you had to ASK. Lets go snort lines of coke using rolled up benjamins off expensive hookers afterwards.

Once again, an internet detective like Uranium has BLOWN THE LID off this whole gaming conspiracy.

I think perhaps we need to remember that this is a game that does a LOT of things right. I'm sure this problem and the others mentioned in other threads will be resolved in time. Just be patient. Hell, there are things that bug me about this game too. But there is still so much fun to be had when it works right.

I'm just going to try me a big game now, I'll report back on what happens.

Instead of random, how about you just build the map you want? That's essentially the same thing, but you get to set more variables.
