Only 2 resoltuions present

So when I first statred this game, it had up to 1680x1050. After quiting the game and turning off the computer, I come to find there is only 2 in game. 1024x768 and 1152x864. I have no clue why only 2 are present.

Also, I can't find the area where saved games and settings are stored.

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Ironclad Games

^ There is nothing there with Ironclad games. : /

I have the same issue, 1680 x 1050 resolution, but now it only gives 3 small non-widescreen resolutions, as long as I don't change it though, it remains at 1680x1050.

I think it happened after I updated to 1.01. 1.02 has the same problem.

Well, atleast I'm not the only one.

I believe I'm at retail. Saw to many problems with 1.02 so decieded to wait.

If I could find the file, I could probably switch the resolution. But can't figure out how all the resolutions just disapear for us.

Resolutions are specified in user.setting in the following location:

Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

Please note these directories may be Hidden by default. To unhide them, go to your Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View and set yourself to view hidden files and folders.

I'm not sure why it would be showing different resolutions though--that's very odd. It should show whatever windows reports your video card is capable of.

Originally inside the game it only gave me the option of 1280x1024. I manually set it to something else (1280x960, for my 19" CRT) via user.setting, which works fine.

After fiddling more, it seems to have something to do with the fact that I'm using the program Refreshforce to force certain refresh rates (85) for my monitor resolutions. My entry for 1280x1024 in Refreshforce is 60 (I keep this for when I use my 17" LCD), and "VideoRefreshRate" in the Sins settings file was also set to 60, which is undoubtedly the culprit.

I got around the problem by setting "VideoRefreshRate" in the Sins settings file to 85. Now it's showing more resolution options in game (all the ones I have set to 85 in Refreshforce).

Oh, and the path for XP is:

C:\Documents and Settings\usernamehere\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

The long and short of this is that most people won't have this issue, because they simply keep their LCDs running at 60, and don't use 3rd party programs to force refresh rates to something other than the standard LCD value of 60 in games.

Thank you Kryo and Hollow. Found the folder, was hidden it seems. I think the refresh rate might be my problem as well.

I originally played the game for hour or 2. I come back to play a few days later and itt crashes to BSOD every 15min or so..lol. Seems after I fix the problem, another one comes up.

No problem. Most games don't allow one to set refresh rates, which is why I have to go to a third party program. But this does cause issues every so often. The Battlefield series is a big problem with this.
